The lack of source information for the synopsis definitions that appear at the top of Factbook entries and in the Guides presents a plagiarism and copyright problem. Background: One of our students recently asked how she should cite the introductory synopsis/summary definition that Logos provides as part of various Guides like the Thematic Outlines, Facebook, Topic Guide, etc.

The example we are looking at is the entry for “Chaos” in the Factbook, which also appears in the Thematic Outlines Guide for Genesis 1.

"A state of complete disorder or confusion. The first stage of creation were, having brought something out of nothing, God had not yet brought order to the universe. This primeval chaos, often symbolised by surging waters, threatens to disrupt God’s order at any time."

When shown in the Guides, this definition from the does not provide any source information when copying and exporting. However, when I did an “All” search for the definition in my Library, it was an exact match for the definition of “Chaos” in The Dictionary of Bible Themes edited by Martin Manser, which was based on the NIV Thematic Study Bible.

It seems as though Logos should provide citation info when this definition appears in the Guides.
