Background Images per slide

My pastor loves to add pictures to his sermon slides. Whenever the pictures aren't the same aspect ratio as the screen, the background shows behind them. That would be fine, except that he wants that background to be black, not the same background as the text he adds. We need to be able to edit/change a background at the slide level, not just the item level. For example, in the attached photo, I want to be able to make the background on that second slide black, without having to create a new item, or a new photo.
