pricing policies
Dear Sir(s),
I am new to Logos. (My course textbooks are on Logos, but in terms of using Logos Bible software, I am new. I am an Accordance user, and considering switching over to Logos.)
I wish to say that I am very disillusioned and unhappy with your pricing policies. You state that you do not charge people for products they already have, but that is an untrue statement.
Just as an example, consider the Challies Recommends: Best New Testament Commentaries (20 volumes). You state that if purchased separately, these items would cost $596.97. I assume that the "Dynamic Collection value" is your normal price for this collection. Is that correct? In this case, that is $328.90. A person can either buy the items separately for $596.97, or they can purchase the collection for $328.90. This represents a 45% savings by buying the collection over buying the items individually.
I assume that the "Dynamic Price" is the current sales price for the collection for someone that does not own any of the titles. Is that correct? That is $264.91. That is approximately 20% off of the "dynamic collection value". (Actually, it is 19.5% off.)
You then state that the "dynamic sale price" is $211.93. That is 20% off of the "dyname price". I suppose this is the sales price for someone like me with certain specific titles which are part of the collection.
The problem that I have with your calculation is the $211.93 represents 20% off of the FULL PRICE for the titles that I do not have! It does not take into account that I am upgrading to the collection. You are cheating me!!
The regular price (the "dynamic collection value") is $328.90, which represents 45% off if purchased separately. Therefore, the remainder of the collection which I do not have should also be 45% off of the full retail (or at least some other amount which represents some benefit to a person upgrading to the collection), but you are charging FULL PRICE for the remaining items (less 20% because of the sale). If we were not looking at the 20% off sale (in order to "compare apples to apples"), you would be charging me FULL PRICE to upgrade to that collection. In other words, there is no point to upgrading to the collection. I could purchase the individual items at full price.
There should be some incentive (other than blatant deceit) to encourage a user to upgrade to a collection. I suggest that since the collection is 45% off, the upgrade should also be 45% off. In my case, the full retail for the items I do not have is $263.10. 45% off would be $144.71, without any sales price. This should be the regular fare on any given day to upgrade to that collection. Now today, since you have 20% off for the collection, I should receive 20% off the upgrade price as well, which would yield a price of $115.76.
I am not interested in the collection. I just chose this collection to analyze if I was getting any benefit, and I was shocked to see the results. Up until today, I was "riding the fence" as to deciding whether to switch over to Logos instead of the investment I already have in Accordance. I have to say that I am disgusted by your pricing policy.
Sincerely,
James Jones
