Struggling as a new Beta Tester - LAYOUTS
OK - Maybe I am just a bit slow, but I am really struggling trying to figure this new version out. I find almost nothing intuitive about getting around. Part of my problem I know is that I am ingrained in L3 and its functionality, but I am have a hard time with the paradigm shift.
Layouts
One basic item that I am struggling with is how layouts function. I was trying to get a custom layout (to mimic what I used to do with Workspaces). I named the layout but for the life of me couldn't figure out how to get it into the Named Layouts column on the left side! I tried clicking, I tried dragging, nothing worked - finally couldn't figure it out so I closed it by going back to my resource window. Went back later and sure enough - there is was in the left column under Named Layouts.
I also used to create a number of custom workspaces and could size and drag windows to the location and space I wanted them. Is that functionality gone in L4? I see where you can select some pre-made layouts (bottom of layout dropdown) But I cannot seem to control what resource goes where in the layout?
I am excited about this new version, but I am struggling to figure it out. Any suggestions.

There was a lot written in these forums about layouts with Beta1. By now most of us have gotten used to how things work, and have forgotten our original mystification.
You can search only the beta forums for layouts and find the threads that deal with layouts (though this forum software is a bit clunky).
Start here and see what this does to get you started:

Michael,
I hope this helps. NOTE: That the "Test" layout I created had a glitch with the preview thumbnail (it was working earlier), but you can still see how it is created.

Thanks Rich
I just came into the Beta Test program so I am starting at Beta 5 and am a bit behind the curve. I have been trying to search the Forums, but I agree they are a bit clunky. Thanks for the help

I'm not sure what you found in the post Rich directed you to but here's a couple quick hints for moving things around.
If you have two panes open you can move a tag from one pane to the next by dragging and dropping it to the new pane.
If you want a tab to be in its own window, right click on the tab and select "Open in floating window" this is great for dual monitors
You can drag and drop tabs between different windows as well.
When you grab a tab and move it around the screen you will see blue shadings appear. There are "hot spots" around the screen. When you move a dragged tab over one of these hot spots the blue shading shows you what the window will look like if you drop it in that location. The other panes are adjusted to accordingly. For instance, if you want the window stretched across the bottom of the window drag it to the bottom middle of the screen. Once you see the blue appear drop the tab and it will create a new pane.
Hope this gives you and anyone else who may have missed those previous posts a little help without confusing you. Most people seem to be very happy with the new layout controls.

I appreciate all the help. I will try not to be a bother.
Bother away. The more questions are asked and re-asked the more familiar we get with how to answer them. Then when 4.0 gets released we can help make it a success by answering the questions here in the best way.

Michael, I am fairly new as well. I think Bob posted this I keep a logos note file on tips that help me. I don't know where this is but this info helped me a lot with moving things around and setting up layouts.
SHIFT + Drag moves all the resources in a panel at one time.
If I drag a tab, I can move that one Bible to the RHS.
If I CTRL+drag a tab, I can make a copy of that Bible on the RHS.
If I SHIFT+drag a tab, I can move all my open Bibles to the RHS.
If I CTRL+SHIFT+drag a tab, I can copy all my open Bibles to the RHS.
