I am adding these posts to the previous tip list L/V 10 Tip of the Day ;

QUESTION: How does one use the Speaking to God interactive?

SOFTWARE: Speaking to God is an interactive that may be opened by:

From the Application toolbar: Tools > Interactives > Speaking to God

From the Application toolbar: Library panel with left sidebar open > Interactive > type “Speaking to God” into Find box > select entry

From the Application toolbar: click on application icon to open Command box > type Open Speaking to God >select entry under Books

ANSWER: This has traditional facet selection behavior when no search box is offered:

The bread crumb trail starts reading All as an action item, followed by 844 results in 837 passages as information. This does not vary by translation as the interactive will use a translation other than the one specified to match an entry. [To tet, set translation in the upper left to RSV2CE then under books chose 4 Maccabees. The results will be shown from the RSV rather than the RSV2CE.]

The default sequence is the by count within a facet of a traditional facet-driven table; there is an option to sort the entries under a facet into alphabetical order.

You may select an entry from the facet list in any order. When you make your selection three things happen. (a) the facet is removed from the left sidebar facets i.e. one may only specify a single value for a facet (b) the chosen facet is added on the right of the bread crumb trail and the counts adjusted to reflect only the entries meeting the new restriction (c) the passages shown are filtered so that only passages meeting all current selected facets are shown. The list of available facet values is adjusted to reflect only values that apply to the displayed passages.

Note that the rabbit trail does not distinguish the facet when a value could be either an addressee or a speaker. If you click on the x in front of a facet value in the bread crumb trail, that value will be removed from the selection criteria and be made available if you wish to try another value. Clicking on All will clear all selected values.

QUESTION: How do I get the same information out of the Bible Browser?

SOFTWARE: From the Application toolbar: Tools > Interactives > Speaking to God

From the Application toolbar: Library panel with left sidebar open > Interactive > type “Speaking to God” into Find box > select entry

From the Application toolbar: click on application icon to open Command box > type Open Speaking to God >select entry under Books

SOFTWARE: The Bible Browser may be opened in multiple ways

From the Application toolbar: Tools > Interactives > Speaking to God

From the Application toolbar: click on application icon to open Command box > type Show Bible Browser >select entry under Reference

ANSWER: The facets and bread crumb trail in the Bible Browser work as in the Speaking to God interactive with one exception: there is a traditional Find box rather than the alphabetic sort options. In the Bible browser, be forewarned that it is possible that the values do not apply to the same label if multiple labels occur in the same verse both of which could have the value. Generally, if you chose the same facets, in the interactive and the browser, you will get the same results. The format is different in that the interactive may give a continuous passage where the browser provides individual verses or pericopes – not specific, customized passages.
