I really miss the old Forums we used to have.

With so much change resulting from Logos switching to a subscription model, why add more confusion by radically changing the forums? It does not seem like a wise move to me. It is quite the opposite. It makes me more wary of even considering a subscription option.

I’ve backed off of the forums to probably just 10% of what I used to read / post. It’s just too cluttered and jumbled with the new layout. I loved the minimalist look of the old forum, and how each issue / category had its own subforum. The tags feature really doesn’t make up for that despite its intention.

I do not wish to complain about the new forums as I was one who did so about the old. I felt they were about 20 years out of date and very much needed to be revamped. I do, however, agree with your sentiment; I'm finding the new one much harder to engage. I am hoping that changes with time and familiarity and as Logos is able to tweak the design some.

They are slowly readjusting things. I like that when you go to forums you don’t see the huge icons anymore for English forums, Beta forums, Chinese forums, etc. Makes it look less cluttered.

Agreed—I very rarely even get on the forums anymore now. Just farrrr too confusing & clunky.

Agree on the timing, though I suspect it was available budget money this year. Maybe get 'change' done at one go.

If I were going to say, well, ok, we're good:

Display last poster and time, with direct link (vs jumping to somewhere)
Choose display forums to include in the Most Recent list. Discussions, questions, languages, suggestions. Like before.

It still seems there's too much wasted space on the PC, only the main text area has been shifted over a bit.

Most posts have too many empty line spaces.
The text space of the post still only takes about half of the screen. There's far too much empty space on either side.

If you want to see an example of what an excellently laid out forum looks like, check out https://www.avsforum.com/forums/ (I'm not a member of this forum, but it uses the same software that a couple other forums I am a part of do). (That ended up being a lie :-) I created a free account in the end for light/dark mode options).

Everything is very nicely laid out - easy on the eyes, easy to see the different categories. Many different subcategories so that you can easily find what you're looking for.

There is also instant light/dark mode :-) But notice how the quoted text is very easily distinct from the main text. And how the user info is not on the top of the post, making the post even longer, but is using up some of the "waste" space on the left side.

The new forums seem to not have any categories/subcategories. I think this means things are going to very quickly get buried. The old forum had too many unneeded subcategories and not enough of the needed categories (there should have been separate places for tips, for suggestions for books, suggestions for features, questions on how to do ____, etc rather than having them all lumped into one).

Something like this is what I was hoping for.

I'm glad to note that I'm not the only old foggie finding it hard to navigate the forum. But Jason seems all eager to fix broken things, so I have hope.

I never had a problem with the old forum design—never even thought about it. It was straight-forward, easy to figure out and to navigate… and so far, I still prefer the old format. At the same time, I know it's a simple fact that change is hard. It's always frustrating to wake up one morning, get a cup of coffee, and sit down at a computer for your normal morning routine… only to discover you don't know how to accomplish any of the things you normally do. If they keep the new format (which I expect they will), then over time… little by little… I expect I'll get use to the new format. I just don't understand what was wrong/bad with the old format.

I may be in the minority in this thread, but I found the old forum format cumbersome and outdated. With some effort you might find an answer to a question but the forums were not ideal. Jason is seeking to achieve what he had done with a community feel that he created and managed; it was known as the "Logos Daily Circle." Jason with the support of Faithlife, is trying to create a community rather than an FAQ guidebook. Admittedly this will be harder to achieve with such a broader audience and brooder subjects. I don't have any inside knowledge of his concept for a layout but it would seem he needed to create larger buckets with some meaning to each. I commend Jason on his efforts and with the support of this community it will be a large step forward.

I have to agree with the consensus described in the other posts. I much prefer the space efficient, table-like layout of the old forum… and I sure miss the "Mark all as Read" function. Reading the forum used to be something I looked forward to doing each morning while eating breakfast. Like others have noted, I am spending much less time reading and posting now.

I agree as well. I still hope I just need to get used to things. But I am not often on the forums anymore because I cannot find new posts and browse what interests me very quickly as I could in the old forums.

Is it true that when I click on a forum post, I was able to go to the Last one (with earlier Forums), but not possible to do now. Who wants to scroll through pages and pages to get to the new one? Is there a way to go to the end right away?

FWIW - I like the new platform and format.

What I like is:

Integration with Feedback
Fewer dead subforums for posts to be buried in
Ability to tag users
Like, agree and LOL buttons
A different and expanded set of emoticons 🏆
The ability to post polls and questions
The bell notification
A more modern look

I know these are personal preferences and I agree with some of the points made here. The quote button does not work and some users are not tagging posts correctly (or at all)

@Jason Stone (Logos) and the team have already made tweaks and adjustments based our input, so I would imagine he will stop by and listen.

Also is there a way to get emails when someone responds to a post? (It used to be possible.)

You can tweak email settings under preferences in the top right by clicking on the bell, then the three slider bars. This brings up your notification preferences.

You can search for your topic, then on the right, filter the results by author. I do find search a bit less user friendly and it needs some improvement.

Based on knowledge not fact, I know the project was delayed twice, one because the chosen product couldn't do the job and once by last minute concerns of beta testers.

The only thing I really hated about the old forums was autocorrect would not work if you mistyped a word. You would go back one letter and the actual word would show up on autocorrect but the old forums wouldn’t take it. Other than that it was good, but I’m getting used to the new ones the more I use them.

My big problem with the old, was Safari wouldn't update an edit, or an added post. Had to close Safari, etc The new, I don't have that problem.

The other issue was trying to search a contributor vs a text-string. And google wouldn't help out either. Had to be real creative. The new 'advanced' search is much better, except there's 4 of me. I had to select DMB #3 (that'd be me) for a post I made.

I try hard not to be negative around here, but I'm going to have to make an exception in this post/comment.

I've been a regular daily visitor to the forums for many a year, but since the change I hardly ever visit now.

It's too hard to find anything I'm interested in.

It's too hard to quote part of a message.

It's too hard to figure out who said something.

It's too hard to figure out what or who somebody is replying to.

Sorry but I don't like it at all.

On a positive note, I think the new Logos is great 😁

One of the two things I really missed from the Old Forums (I liked the Table Style list of Posts) has been easing day by day with use and the tweaks being made. The Second, the Quote capabilities, still need to catch up - BUT overall, I wouldn't trade back to the old due to the Mobile access that has been excellent.
