I know I can edit a post within the allowed time span after submitting it, but I can't see any way to delete it. Might I suggest that the delete feature be added? But I might be missing something, too.

I don't know, Lew. Who would want to delete a post? I'm sure almost no one. What would be the point?

More seriously, several features seem to have eluded the FL team … I'd say not by accident. I just wonder why.

Logos.com has a similar mysterious design oddness.

As someone who has spoken in haste before, this seems like an obvious feature to include.

Allowing self-deletion is not as simple as one may think, particularly in a community designed as ours is. Just a thought to keep in mind - allowing self-deletion might lead to comments getting scattered, especially in a support-focused community like ours. Imagine someone joining a discussion after it’s already happened and trying to find answers. The comments might not make much sense anymore. The ability for a member to edit their content is a response to that very issue.

A simple solution would be to report a post to Admins for deletion, but that feature (self-deletion) is a feature that we could consider enabling in our community.

I'd also like to point out that we do have a tag for Community, as forums, feedback, and more are lumped together into this site now. Suggestions around the community site can be tagged as such.

I've only wanted to self-delete a couple of times, and in both instances nobody had responded to my post yet. Allowing for deletions in that case shouldn't have any ramifications.

Ahh! Thanks for the "Community" tag. I had overlooked that.

Yes, I had in mind restricting such deletions only if nobody has commented. I sort of assumed that would present no philosophical challenges similar to going back in time and preventing your parents from meeting or anything like that. 😂

Well 'previously' deletion was allowed within seconds of a major boo-boo. Plus double posts, like yours.

Who would want to delete a post?

Recently, I posted a question and found the solution shortly after. Deleting the post might spare useless efford to forumites willing to engage in helping.

Doesn't it send out emails shorty after a new post? They can't undo email 😀

Yes, it makes sense to me that the time limit for deleting would be shorter than editing. Even a timer of 5-10 minutes would allow erroneous posts/comments to be deleted. I have seen empty comments from me than I do not remember posting. Perhaps these were a result of a glitch? Self deletion would allow users to clean up such accidents and errors.

True. This is also a "problem" with edits. I don't think it's a problem that needs solving, however. The dynamic nature of the forums allows users to correct and refine their posts and comments. Emails allow users to receive a snapshot of what was originally posted directly in their inbox. I think both are useful.
