Notes links to Factbook entries disfunctional

Team,

I'm aware of the announcement that L4 links are being replaced with ref.ly with the arrival of Logos 39+ but I'm having issues with ref.ly links in my Desktop 38.1 version. Would be helpful to know if anyone else is encountering this or has insight.

Issue: With "Copy location as" set either to "URL" or to "RL" in Factbook, any link copied (Mac: Opt+Cmd+C) from Factbook Event "Paul's Second Missionary Journey" to Notes results in an unclickable/unresolvable link in Notes. The pasted URL for "Copy location as" set to URL:

proto://ref.ly/logos4/Factbook?id=ref%3abk. where "proto" is "https".

The pasted URL with "Copy location as" set to RL:

[[Factbook | Paul’s second missionary journey >> proto://ref.ly/logos4/Factbook?id=ref%3abk.]] where "proto" is "https".

After some additional testing, it appears that this issue is specific to Factbook Events. I do not encounter this issue with Factbook Concepts , Places, or References, Preaching Theme, nor Individual Events.

Any insight is appreciated.

Ralph

That URL should be https://ref.ly/logos4/Factbook?id=ref%3abk.*paulssecondseries (Windows)
i.e. there should be a suffix after %3abk. with a description.

Is it different if you click URL in the panel menu?
Where does the explanation for proto come from if it is part of the URL?

    Hello Dave,

Thanks for the response on this. First, I replaced "https" with "proto" in my original message to prevent the URL I was pasting from being translated to an actual URL. It was simply a construct to display the URL in this forum. I'll try here again w/o that replacement

If I have "Copy Location as" set to URL in the Factbook panel menu with "Paul begins his second missionary journey" as the current Event in Factbook, the pasted URL looks like this:

    https://ref.ly/logos4/Factbook?id=ref%3abk.*PaulBeginsSecond

but when I paste that link/URL into Notes (as a link), that link does not resolve/open that Factbook entry.

Similarly, if I set "Copy Location as" to RL, for the same Factbook entry I get the following URL:

[[Factbook | Paul begins his second missionary journey >>

    https://ref.ly/logos4/Factbook?id=ref%3abk.*PaulBeginsSecond%5D%5D

and that URL pasted into a Notes as a link doesn't resolve/open either.

If I have "Copy Location as" set to URL in the Factbook panel menu with "Paul begins his second missionary journey" as the current Event in Factbook, the pasted URL looks like this:

Your hyperlink opens Factbook from my browser and pasting the actual link in Notes also works i.e. https://ref.ly/logos4/Factbook?id=ref%3abk.*PaulBeginsSecond

Similarly, if I set "Copy Location as" to RL, for the same Factbook entry I get the following URL: …

and that URL pasted into a Notes as a link doesn't resolve/open either.

RL is intended as a link in Reading Lists so it is best to ignore that attempt.

Does URL work if you paste into the Command Box?

Are you using the beta v39?

    Dave,

If I paste into the Go box the URL https://ref.ly/logos4/Factbook?id=ref%3abk.*PaulBeginsSecond it DOES open to the correct Factbook entry. That at least tells us that the internals are working fine. I just haven't figured out why that same URL as a link in a Note DOES NOT open the correct Factbook location.

I'm currently running 38.1 and not part of the Beta team.

You are in the wrong forum (Beta Desktop App), so I'll see if the thread can be move to the English Forum with a Desktop App tag.
