Would a daily, weekly, and/or monthly email digest summarizing new community activity be helpful? Thanks to this more comprehensive update, that email could be enabled for specific categories and may allow community members to disable several notifications found in their profile settings.

Note: The digest email could be adjusted by individual community members in profile settings.

@Jason Stone (Logos) can't say. No idea what you mean by a "digest"here. How would it appear or be displayed in my email? Some explanation would be helpful.

@Bill, I was using the term "digest" in the sense of a news digest — or a roll-up of happenings.

I'll attach page 1 of an unmodified test example that was sent to myself but know that there is some customization that can be done concerning what's included in these emails.

Now seeing the prototype, I voted 'no' and now I changed my mind … 'definitely no'. Smiling.

'Trending', at least on the Logosian forum translates to crazy people's ideas (mine). Argue, argue, argue. I'm just guessing, a digest should be more along the lines of 'useful'.

A while back (don't remember), MJ translated useful ideas into her tips. That's sort of what I'd vote 'yes' for.

But just my own thinking.

Looks pretty nice. If it's optional and easy to implement (not really an important feature for me personally) I don't see the harm.

Of course, it would be much nicer to receive if Logos would improve their general email situation. It's likely I wouldn't even open the email most times, since my general habit with the 2-4 emails I get from Logos every day is ✓ > delete.

Trending is a filler, in the case of the example. There are three scenarios under which the Digest is sent to subscribers:

When a subscriber is following categories, the Digest is "personalized" to include content from those followed categories.
- If a subscriber isn't following any categories, then:
The Digest comprises the Default Followed Categories that an Admin (me!) has configured for the community.
- If there are no Default categories configured, then:
The Digest contains only the top 5 trending posts (positive reactions, comments, views, etc.) across the entire community.

Too bad the mvp's couldn't select (maybe they'd not want to). Graham sees a lot of confused users … Dave, technical … MJ practical (over-generalizing) and so on.

I would make a couple of suggestions:

Please make the e-mail OPTIONAL. And the sign up should not be automatic. People should be able to choose to opt in, not be automatically opted in and be forced to opt out.
Those who do want to receive it should have options to ONLY get the content they want, and when they want it.

Many people have commented in other threads about the seemingly unending barrage of e-mails that Logos sends out, and it seems it's either sign up for everything or get nothing - there's no middle ground.

I wanted to sign up for the Daily Deals e-mail. That's it. But I quickly found out that's impossible. By selecting to receive the Daily Deal e-mail, I also end up getting at least 2 additional e-mails from Logos every single day, none of which are even remotely useful to me, and then there's the very annoying "Hey your cart is calling you are you going to answer it?" e-mail that I would also get every single day. There is no option for me to unsubscribe from the e-mails I don't want to get and only get the ones I do. Ultimately, I chose to not receive any.

The email digest, like all email notifications, would be optional and easy to manage from your profile settings.

I'd rather see better organization of the forum with a quicker interface that shows things more "at a glance," like a sitemap style structure, much like the Table of Contents in many of your digital books created for use in Logos. This makes so much sense sense. Then, give me the ability to mark all of the posts in a forum as read and show new posts or unread pots in a bold typeface.

I've found the new structure makes it harder to see what's there and therefore I spend far less time in them.

I like the idea of a weekly digests that informs me of the most popular forum threads. Important factors for me:

Zero ads or resource recommendations (too much of that already in the other 5 or 6 daily emails).
I’m OK with the proposed top 5. top 10 would be OK too
OK with daily, weekly and monthly options as long as each has the Opt-out function - which Jason has already confirmed.
As much of a matrix / table-like format as possible
Minimal wasted space in the body of the email.
Doesn’t detract from forum improvement development.

I think weekly oo biweekly would be best. I think a daily summary would end up being ignored like other daily email updates.

Might also be nice to have a section of unanswered posts where insight is being sought but has for some reason or another gone unseen.

I’ve used this and also code-customized and admin’d this on another active forum … it is VERY helpful since it cuts the number of emails down to one per week.
The user optionally could ADDITIONALLY check a box for any particular thread, to recieve individual emails for all new posts/replies to that thread.
However a KEY to making it work well is for the user to be able to subscribe to focus-topic Rooms in the forum, and only get the digest of those - plus one General room that has major announcements.
The “full digest” in that forum was simply a long email with the full text of all new posts in that Room, and links to them if you wanted to reply. No graphics in the digest email, of course.
There was another option that few used which had for each post only the title of the thread, the date, the author, and the first line of the post, plus a direct link to it.
We didn’t have AI back then. I suppose that another option might be an AI summary of all new info that appeared in that Room from that week.
