We use content slides for text and for foreground images, etc. I often need to fill the background, but I seem to only have certain colors to use. This week, I need orange. Can I access a full color palette for the background fill color?

I don't think you can access the Orange you need.
Easiest way I can think of is to open Pages and create an orange rectangle. Take a screenshot of the rectangle and use it as a background fill.
