… this must be books that are carried in Logos' catalog? Do I have that right? Or is there a way to add a paper book which I have which is NOT in Logos' catalog, just so I know I have it?

Correct.

If the purpose is just to know you have it, you could accomplish this with a personal book. You would have to decide what method would most closely align with your intentions, but, for example, you could create personal books with the book title and location, e.g. "bookshelf 1."
