Background:

  • For the last 2 months I have been playing/exploring Logos AI translation from English to Chinese (I subscribed to Logos Max for 2 years)
  • As an example to provide correct context, I used: Daily Doctrine: A One-Year Guide to Systematic Theology
  • While I appreciate the translation feature, I hope to see some improvements

Some common issues:

  • In the same article, same English words "Title" are translated out of context, while the same "Title" words within the article are translated correctly in correct context. It happened quite often, but, not always. I thought it may not be a DeepL problem, it could be how Logos pass the chunk of text to be translated (? just guessing)
  • Some time when a para has multiple theological points, some are quite close (eg. True religion and Real religion) they are translated to the same Chinese words
  • In multi points items in para, some times two points got concatenated into one; missing back of 1st point and front of 2nd point
  • There are some occasions I get wrong translation (including opposite meaning) in a complicated sentence, that I have to correct manually
  • Quoting title of books, DeepL use 《…》to do this, however, I notice a good number the missing left angular bracket (like 10-30% of the time), especially, if it is a first character of the sentence. I think it is over using the angular bracket, eg. sometime references to books of the bible is treated this way (but, not aways consistent)
  • etc. etc

My work around:

  • I used DeepSeek … I simply say in the Chat interface: translate to Chinese … followed by a para of the article
  • I was very surprised with it's fairly consistent translation quality vs DeepL
  • It understands Theological terms, it's underlining definitions and structure, etc. in the above mentioned book better than DeepL, most of the time
  • Due to it's Chinese heritage, It obviously makes the translation more readable to Chinese reader today
  • For each para of translation, there are notes that explain the rationale of its translation choices

Request:

  • Please consider to add DeepSeek on top of DeepL.com for Chinese translation.
  • It will be nice to have both so that I have the choice to see both translations and manually merge them to make the end result better.
  • Thanks for considering

JK
