Crafting sermons is one of the most meaningful — and sometimes challenging — responsibilities for those in ministry. Whether you’re preaching weekly, teaching occasionally, or just organizing thoughts for a devotional, having the right tool can make a difference. That’s where Logos' Sermon Builder comes in.

With Sermon Builder, you can create, organize, and present your sermons all in one place. It pulls together your notes, Scripture references, illustrations, and slides—automatically formatting them for presentation or print.

I enjoy the calendar feature and all my sermons searchable in the same software as my notes.

I really love Sermon Builder! I teach, and so it has been an awesome resource to organize my class lectures. :) I love the headings and subheadings. Super helpful. Another thing I love is being able to paste quotes which retain the source, so that I am able to just click on them to open the source text. :) I also use the notes pretty intensely (or very intensely), and I really appreciate that I can just copy a block of my sermon and paste it onto a note and how smooth the two work together.

I'm wondering.. How come those tutorial and update videos are never on Youtube?

You guys have very little videos on how to use the software, espcially on Sermon Builder. What's going on?

I write all my sermons in the sermon builder. I have used it to write Bible studies, but for some reason that has not worked out that well. I also see potential for using it to write short articles or devotions, but so far MS-Word og LibreOffice Writer works better. Here are a few things that I have noticed:

    • When adding scripture references to the metadata, you have to wait for the context menu to appear. Otherwise the reference will disappear. This is annoying when creating templates for many sermons.
    • I usually contain the hymn selection, liturgical readings, collect prayer etc in the document. Would it be possible to add a simple method of selecting a collect prayer and readings from a lectionary? Perhaps there already is, but since I am using a non-english lectionary, I do need to prepare it myself as a Personal Book. Perhaps that makes it more difficult.
    • There is a bug when deleting messing up paragraph styles when you delete a paragraph above or under a heading.
    • In the sermon manager, the filter section quickly gets cluttered and difficult to navigate. How about starting with all collections collapsed? Or not having to press "more»" serveral times in order to get to the gospels in the "Bible books" category.
    • Could the sermon sidebar provide links to other sermons preached on the same text? For those of us who use lectionaries, this is actually very common.
    • I do like the idea of the note feature, but for some reason I have never gotten into the habit of using it. Instead, I have been using physical notebooks, and lately my Antinet ZK for this.

How has Sermon Builder helped you deliver more impactful messages?
It has not done that, and it never will. It is the Word of God that creates an impactful message, not the word processor. However, a word processor, it is a tool that provides convenience. This one resides in the same place as my electronic theological library, and is integrated into it. It is useful to have my sermons come up in search results, and it is especially helpful to have the archive in the sermon manager.

Can you say more about what doesn't work? Is it a specific aspect of the tool, or can you not access Sermon Builder at all?

clicking save as sermon in a passage guide does not produce panels of text in the sermon builder

My apologies, Claude, I'm not sure I understand what aspect of the Passage Guide you are referring to. Is it possible to post a screenshot, or provide a more detailed step-by-step walkthrough of what you are trying to do?

The aspect where you click three dots, choose send to sermon builder. The scriptures of the passage list should then be panels in the newly created sermon document

Sorry, I see the confusion. I meant passage list, not passage guide.
