Hello,

As you know, JW's don't believe in the Trinity. That is my first question. What passages of Scripture can I use to show them the Trinity? We know the Trinity is not in the Bible but the concept of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are the Trinity. Second point- they do not believe that Jesus was fully divine and fully human when He was on the earth. What Scriptures support His Divinity on the earth?

Pray the Holy Spirit would remove the veil from the JW eyes. There are three ladies I would ask you to pray for: Georgia, who is my next door neighbor, Rachel, Denise. ty

There are a number of sites online that will provide scriptures (https://carm.org/jehovahs-witnesses/a-biblical-response-to-jehovahs-witnesses/ for example). A search and google will bring up a few. Logos has the book “Jehovah’s Witnesses Answered Verse by Verse” by David Reed. It is an older book but still useful.

Personally, I think the diety of Christ is the primary issue. Personally, I like to use the Jehovah’s Witness church resources when talking to them.

The Jehovah’s Witness church has a lot of resources online (including an iPad app). They have a lot of articles explaining their belief and an online study bible that explains their interpretation of passages related to the diety of Christ. Their iPad app supports the KJV and the American Standard version as well as their New World version (prior to 1960 they used KJV and AS). They also have a simple interlinear online that they say was used to translate the NW version. Their interlinear is an unmodified SBL Greek edition. It demonstrates that their explanations (John 8:58 for example) are unsupported. I like these resources as I find it helpful in getting them engaged.

Some suggest using verses that present Jesus as the one who created all things. (When they use Colossians 1: 15 point them to 1:16). John 1:1 is a verse that they are aware of and prepared for. I used logos to create a report of all examples of anarthrous theos to show that their argument doesn’t hold water. John 1:3 is a good verse (ask how can the one who created all things be created? Did he create himself?) I also think that a questioning approach works a lot better than just trying to prove they are wrong.

Jehovah’s Witness believe in soul sleep. At the resurrection people who don’t follow their church will be told the truth and given a chance to believe and spend eternity on a perfect earth (only the 144,000 actually get to go to heaven). Similar to Pascal’s wager, if we are wrong we loose nothing (no consequences, we simple choose life at the resurrection), if they are wrong they loose everything (and face God’s judgment).

Makes me think of a young girl who wanted so badly to share her faith. On a plane, she leaned over to the lady next to her and said, "I am a Christian and want to share my faith, but I am so bad at it! I have no idea how to do it. May I practice on you?"

They became quite good friends.

@Ann Messier It is inappropriate to assume a theological stance right and another stance is wrong in these forums. All users are to be treated with respect including unitarians, of which there are multiple varieties. @Mike W please refrain from answering inappropriate posts with anything more than links to Logos books.

It is important that everyone feel comfortable on the forums, including any Jehovah's Witnesses who use the program. That is why we are very careful to not judge any group negatively - they would feel less welcome coming back with more questions. You are free to ask for resources as long as you ask in a neutral manner. For example, I have asked for anti-Catholic apologetic resources so I could see if they were in general as misinformed as the ones I had just read. I could have asked for books on how those in the Reformed movement view Catholicism. What I can't do is indicate that Catholicism is correct and others are heretics.

They are willing to sit down with you but that doesn’t mean they’re willing to listen to you. They see this as an opportunity to “convert you!” After 1 or 2 sessions they might bring one of their leaders that has more experience on the subject and then after the 3rd session, if they see they’re not getting anywhere with you, they’ll mark your house and let people know not to go there anymore.

Trust me, I’ve been there done that and have seen it more than once. They are train to talk not to listen.
You would have to catch one of their recent converts by themselves if you really want to have a shot at engaging in a serious study or else it’ll be chasing rabbit all night long and how everything you’re showing them is just apostate material.

Not trying to discourage you, but be forewarned.
