A better way to get logs to send to Logos

After watching the video at http://community.logos.com/forums/t/6731.aspx I had to think there must be an easier way to get the log archive.

What you need is a scribe to gather your logs for you. Meet Logos Log Scribe. 7875.Logos Log Scribe.app.zip

This little app will create a LogosLogs.gz file on your desktop containing all of the relevant log files that Logos would like you to send with your bug report.

This is an initial release and it has not been tested on 10.5. I welcome any feedback from both users and Logos developers.

Thank you, Daniel. I downloaded and tried your app on my MBP (10.6.4), and it worked flawlessly. Now, I will just wait for the next crash to send files to Logos.

I'm not sure what you're asking with your "wonder about" shorthand, KS4J. Could you elaborate more?

Should I have rebuked Daniel rather than thanking him? Should he had abandoned his trusty Mac, adopted a decidedly inferior OS and programmed the routine, waited several weeks and then released the utility for the Mac? [:D] (offered in the same spirit as the quoted post)

This sounds really great. Thanks for the work. But I'm having trouble. I've downloaded the file twice and unzipped it with a program called Zipeg. But I can't open it. My mac tells me it is damaged or incomplete. Any suggestions. (Ironic... You're just trying to to help support Logos. Now you are being asked to support Log Scribe.)

Sounds like aside from now resolved zip issues, it's working for everyone. I'd still like to hear from the Logos developers as to if the contents of the LogosLogs.gz file is correct.

I've got some enhancements in mind once I get time to do them. This is something I threw together in my free time at home, so no guarantees.

I could use an icon for the app. If people want to throw some ideas together, I'll pick one. Be sure not to violate Logo's copyrights though. (I hope they are ok with "Logos Log Scribe," I wanted the name to be descriptive as to its function.) I'd also be willing to let Logos bundle this app with their software. Otherwise, I'll just include it in the newfangled Mac App Store Apple announced this week. Gratias, of course.

It might be nice to date/timestamp the LogosLogs.gz file name and possibly the user name. I happen to download a lot of posted logs, so it might be helpful to have some way to distinguish them.

Something like LogosLogs_thomas_20101022_1332.gz

I'd write one for Windows, but I'm not at all familiar with the Windows programming environment. Looking at how manual log archives are made on Windows, it shouldn't be hard for someone to whip one up there as well.
