Text Comparison question

In Accordance I can press a hot key and it will show me ALL Bibles with that specific verse, regardless of the language, just if it contains that verse number.

I think the equivalent is "Text Comparison" in Logos, yet it is only comparing a few random Bibles. Is there a way for Text Comparison to show me the verse in every Bible I own, regardless if it is an OL text or translation?

I tag my Bibles, and thence, use the tag in Text Comparison.

It's not a hot key (as John, F7). And the 'lead' Bible defines verse accessability (I use a a Bible with the most-est verses/books).

Even so, in Logos, all 'Bibles' is a massive grouping (752 in my library). I narrow by language, strike duplication, and use 4 TCs.

Actually, for your purposes, a multiview on a select Bible (with tagged Bibles) would work best … Logos remembers the selection for use later.

Hi @John Fidel, thanks for the idea, but I am on a Mac. :) I tried various combinations but nothing worked. That said, opening the Text Comparison is fast enough (I don't really need a hot key) I just need it to show more versions than it does. (It is only showing so-called top Bibles).

Hi @DMB, are these tags the same tags which show up as tags in notes? Or are they different? Also, once you do tag them, how do you do Text Comparison on just those tags?

That is a good point about having potentially too many Bibles. As you might remember, in Accordance the Bibles are compared top to bottom, so it can just mindlessly keep scrolling regardless of how many Bibles there are. I can also filter it by language or organize them as such. This makes me think though, should I make all my English Bibles a "collection" in Logos? Would that be harmless? I noticed on the Text Comparison that I could select a Collection.

Why do you use tags instead of a Collection?

First, 'tagging' is in the library. You might be using collections, a functional equivalent.

For use in Text Comparison, just click on the 2nd choice, type the collection (or tag) name, and select it from the displayed list.

However, Logos has a nasty surprise … the first Bible has to have the verse you want. In a tagging or collection, any random 1st Bible might not have the verse and then display nothing. So, I first add a Bible with most verses, then add a tagging or collection (example below). Note that Bible ORDER uses the library's Bible title. In my example, I re-titled to show age-ordering. Some might re-title relative to preferencial use.

However, in my layout, I use 5 TCs by language, all linked to the 1st TC (they respond depending on language):

I just tried it and I don't see the option regarding tags. Maybe it is since I haven't tagged Bibles? Given what you said of collections basically being an equivalent, I think maybe I should just create collections of the Bibles.

Tags (in the library) or collections have different benefits (I use mainly tags, but also collections):

Collections can be dynamic (they can automatically pick up new purchases by name)
Collections can nest each other (drag one collection into another)
Tags are good for quick one-offs in the library
Tags are great for hierarchical use

These are just a few examples. Every book that enters my library gets a tag. Started 20 years ago!

Hi @DMB, I see, thank you for clarifying this distinction. :) I don't know if you saw it on that other thread I started, but I have super mixed feelings about tags. I just started doing it with notes and really liked them, but then I discovered they are not alphabetical, which made it all super chaotic. :( For sure not practical to have thousands of tags in notes in a random order. :( I can see how it might work better in the Library I guess.

Yep … early childhood development at Faithlife, emphasized big to little. Alpha-sorting was later, after Faithlife dropped out. Just joking … they absolutely refuse to sort alpha, even on the web store. My guess is they developed a big/little filter and then put it everywhere. I don't use the filters as a result.
