This is a long-standing bug, but I am reporting it here as I am on Beta. The issue is difficult to reproduce, but happens frequently under the right circumstances. To reproduce:
- Open a resource and have several other tabs open as well so you can swipe left and right.
- Turn “Swipe to Highlight” OFF.
- Press/holding a word and then drag left or right to select text. Since Swipe to Highlight is OFF, the text should be selected, rather than highlighted. (This is expected behavior)
- Without pressing/holding a word, drag left or right to swipe to a different tab. (This is expected behavior).
- The issue is that if I try to swipe tabs, but accidentally stutter-tap when I touch the screen, there is a delay, and then rather than swiping tabs, a highlight is added where I swiped (even though Swipe to Highlight is OFF!). This leads to accidental highlights applied.
Notes: this is difficult to reproduce, because you need a stutter-tap that consists of a two taps (or, a tap and then a swipe) almost infinitesimally close together. It is almost impossible to do intentionally, but it happens frequently when you tap the screen to swipe and your finger bounces off the screen slightly before swiping.
Also, once you engage this behavior, you can drag the highlight as long as you wish, as if Swipe to Highlight is engaged.
