OK, so I'm going to try to submit this idea once again, because there has never been any action on this and it has been quite a while.
First, some background, I have very sensitive eyes, so I typically must use digital devices in some form of dark mode. My desktop has as much dark background as is allowed and all my mobile devices operate in dark mode as well. I am also an independent scholar, which makes reading and research, especially on electronic devices a common thing, often for many hours in a day. I also try to operate in a lower light environment. I read in the mornings, and during the day, I keep the blinds closed in my office and turn off the lights.
Second, THANK YOU so much for making a Dark Mode in the mobile app! It is a TRUE dark mode, true black background with true white text (or these colors are very close to that).
Finally, to my suggestion. Please make the desktop app Dark mode a TRUE dark mode. Right now, the "Light" mode presents a true white background (RGB 255, 255, 255) with true black text (RGB 0, 0, 0). I just tested it. This is what it is. If I were to read text in this mode for an hour, I would have a headache and my eyes would be burning.
When I switch to dark mode, the background is NOT a true black. It is RGB 42, 47, 56. That is almost a 25% gray. Additionally, the "white" text is actually RGB 234, 237, 242, which is about 93% gray. The combination of these two colors makes the text difficult to read. First off, because it is not a true white on true black, in order to read the text more easily, I need to turn up the brightness on my screen, which defeats the purpose of being in a low light environment. A true white text on true black background is much easier to read with the screen brightness turned down.
Likewise, I am not unsympathetic to those who are complaining that they hate the mobile device true white text on true black background. However, on a mobile device it makes more sense this way, as most mobile dark modes are true white one true black. However, with as many options as we have available on the desktop software, it is not too much of a stretch to ask that this change be made or at least give users the option to set the colors of their background and primary text colors. We have a few options in light mode right now, but none of these work as desired.
This has been a product suggestion for years. This is not a difficult fix. Please make this change so that I can read from the desktop app more easily without burning my eyes.
Thank you!
