Orthodox Study Bible

I know that Logos has the OSB NOTES, and that the Septuagint edition that OSB uses is due to be released late this year. But there are edits to the NKJV that I don't think Logos has picked up on. Is there a way the entire OSB could be put together? Also, how the links to Septuagint work with abbreviations. IV Kingdoms doesn't work that I am aware of.

@Bob Herbon I'd be very interested to hear more about what you love about the OSB, and the edits to the NKJV that you find valuable.

I'm an Orthodox Christian of 25 years, and was excited by the idea of an Orthodox Study Bible, especially using the LXX for its OT source, but I spent a year or more with it when it came out and I was very disappointed in it. I'm NOT an expert in the ancient languages, but there were many places where I found the word choices odd, and clunky, and they just sort of kicked me out of reading and into "is this really what the original text meant?" so I'd look it up and when I compared them to Brenton or Logos's own LES and LES2, I much preferred their readings. And very many of the notes in it seemed like little more than paraphrasing the text and not proving any particular insight into it. It seemed more designed to try to present Orthodoxy to Protestants than to be a valuable resource for Orthodox Christians ourselves.

But I've gathered that there are some who consider the OSB's OT to have been well done and a valuable translation, and I'm no expert, so I've pre-ordered it, and will give it another chance when it arrives. And I'm very interested to know more about what you like about it, how you find it useful, how you prefer its version of the NKJV's NT to the usual one (I honestly didn't realize it was any different from the regular NKJV, other than their notes). Maybe you can help me get more out of it.

@Bob Herbon there are no changes to the NKJV New Testament text in the Orthodox Study Bible. It is the same NKJV NT text found in any Protestant Bible. Sometimes the OSB notes offer clarifications on the text from an Orthodox perspective, but the text itself is not altered.

@Bob Herbon Oh, and you probably are already familiar with it, but do check out the Eastern Orthodox Bible: New Testament, translated by Fr. Laurent Cleenwerck. I personally prefer that translation over the NKJV.

Interestingly, New Rome Press is about to release a print reader edition Bible that contains the EOB for the New Testament and the Lexham English Septuagint for the Old Testament. I got in on one of the early pre-orders, but they've paused those for the moment.

Yes, I'd forgotten, but yes I read your article, and I think it was what made me decide to pre-order the SAAS.

I have a wonderful multivolume ESV Reader Edition, and I really love it. I use Logos every day, but very nearly every day I also just like to sit in a chair with the Bible in my hand and just read the Bible, take it in, muse, meditate, etc., and I really love the absence of distractions: no footnotes, no verse numbers, not even chapter numbers! I enjoy reading different translations when I'm trying to study the Bible, but I seem to have settled on the ESV for my usual Bible reading, even though it's a Protestant Bible.

Thanks for reminding me about that EOB — I have it, but really haven't read it much at all. I need to give it a try! I may keep an eye out for that New Rome version. Thanks!
