Carta Scans are so low-quality as to be useless

One of the things I like about Carta is how many charts, maps, drawings, and illustrations they have. I recently acquired the Carta Understanding series, and am terribly disappointed in the low LOW quality of scans Logos is offering. Here's one, at full resolution. Completely unreadable and utterly useless. (This one's from Understanding The Holy Temple Jesus Knew.)

Any hope of getting these better quality? I don't know that I would have acquired the series (part of a collection) had I known it was this bad.

Indeed. I had noticed some scans that didn't look great in the series, but I've not come across ones as bad as this one. Others in this volume are also weirdly awful.

I kind of doubt the issue is scans. Looks more like incorrect dimensions assigned. Just comparing Quest to Understanding. Carta uses a heavy bolded font, that if 'squished' would look like Understanding.

I can reproduce the problem. I have skimmed it when it came out, but I can't recall paying attention to this.

For me it looks like a problem in the picture file compression.

I copied this image to Photoshop and it shows the same problem.

I tried various tricks, but none of the Photoshop AI tools fixed it …

I can't look up Carta. But when it comes to Logos/Verbum pictures, I usually export the ones interesting to me to PowerPoint. One can zoom into the picture there or c/p it to other places. Maybe this workaround helps.

I added a tag "bug" so that Logos will pick up the problem and look into it.

We’re paying subscription now, I think it’s time Logos invest in better graphics instead of new features. At least for a while.

Well, gee. If they improved graphics … hmmm … nah. Still not worth whatever the subscription is.

In my mind, they've been so stubborn about zoomable graphics (even Logos mobile has it; hello). Quality of graphics? I'd bet that was a 2008 decision they're locked into.

In some other cases, they have indicated that the quality of the graphics is dependent on what the publisher sends them. In this particular case, if it is a case of dimensions, it may be something Logos can fix. I do not know enough about the processing of images to have an opinion on why Logos has not added the zoom function.

Veli might be right. On the mobile it's easy to zoom in to image detail. Some are exquisite. But the re-creations with bolded text are uniformly bad … as if the old BMP format was stretched.

I suppose maybe the publisher.

Here’s a similar image from the same resource. I tried accessing on an iPad. I like how images like this now open in a separate “pop up” when you tap them, but it doesn’t seem to help the resolution of this type of image. It does have the appearance of a bitmap image as opposed to a scalable vector based graphic

That one is at least… poorly readable. It's still shockingly poor quality.

Agreed! I've checked out some other volumes - it's not universally true of the series, thankfully. I've seen some very nice high res and scalable photos, maps, etc.

I believe I have this both in Logos and "the other guys". I can check my copy over there and see if it's an issue with the Logos edition or with the publisher electronic edition itself if you need me to.
