Program Crashing

I try to start L4 and Windows states that there is a problem with the program, tries to rectify it, and then closes the program. I recently moved L4 to my D drive, but it was working fine. Then, a few days ago, it tried to index. I left it for the day, and it still had not finished step 2 of the 3 step process. Now, it isn't working at all.

Additionally, I'm downloading my files to Carbonite in order to archive them (first time). Mainly I'm doing this because I'm fearful there is something wrong with my computer.

Having said all this, is the problem with my computer or with L4? Other programs on my computer are working fine.

Can you restart your computer, turn permanent Logos logging on (see 'How to ask for help', below), then try and run Logos. Please let us know what happens (nothing? crash? error message?) and attach your logs.

Hi, Mark. Thanks for your help. I restarted with logging operating (see below). The program is still crashing in exactly the same way.

Hmm. The program is crashing when downloading your licence file. The other post I could find on the subject (here) was not helpful!

Now, you said that you moved Logos to your D drive, but the log still says it's installed on your C drive. Perhaps that's the cause of the problem. How did you move it? Has it worked since you moved it?

(I'd also try working offline - hold CTRL when you load Logos and then click the resultant button - in case that works for the time being.)

I moved it simply by copying and pasting. It did work after the move. I tried to hold CTRL and chose the work offline button. Interestingly, L4 is on stage two of preparing my library again. I have a feeling that it might be in some kind of infinite loop. The last time it prepared my library, it took way too long.

I would be very surprised if that wasn't the source of your problem. According to your log, Logos is still running from drive C - but not at the folder it once was.

Your data path used to be C:\Users\Jim Oesterwind\AppData\Local\Logos4\Data\yderwn2s.m5e

Now it's at C:\Users\Jim Oesterwind\AppData\Local\Logos4\Data\kb42e15p.g0j\

If you've got bits of Logos scattered across two hard drives, I'm not surprised it's crashing! I therefore think the best thing to do is to re-install. I would do this in the following manner to save a large download:

Move any resources from drive C into a temporary folder on drive D (they'll be in C:\Users\Jim Oesterwind\AppData\Local\Logos4\Data\kb42e15p.g0j\ResourceManager\Resources)
Move any resources from drive D into the same temporary folder.
Uninstall Logos
Restart your computer, and make sure the entire Logos folders are deleted from drives C and D.
Reinstall Logos. During install, select Custom installation and uncheck “Automatically Download Updates”. If you don't have a DVD, you can download it from here: http://downloads.logos.com/LBS4/Installer/4.10.4.6514/Logos4Setup.exe
Sign-in to Logos when prompted.
Type scan d:\path.to\temporary\folder (replacing with the folder name from step 1) into the command bar.
Restart Logos.
You'll get the 'preparing your library' message - and it could stay that way for upto an hour depending on the speed of your computer and how many resources you'll have. After that, Logos will want to re-index, which will take many hours.

Thanks, Mark. I've started this process. I know you must be correct because there are no resources in my D drive. I'm such a dunderhead! I probably should have asked about moving L4 from C to D before attempting it. I knew it couldn't be that simple. Thanks again!

Can your procedure be used to speed up the installation of L4 on a second computer? In other words, if I copy the "Resources" folder from an existing L4 installation to a temp folder on a second computer, then install L4 as you outlined and use the "scan" command, will that get get the resources to the second computer? Also, will the scan command move/copy the resources from the temp folder to the appropriate "real" location on the second computer (meaning I can delete the temp folder once that's complete)?

Yes, provided the temp folder is available to the second computer eg. local network, external drive. See http://wiki.logos.com/Quick_Installation_onto_multiple_computers for other methods.
