Stop the Off-topic Discussions!

I have to respectfully disagree. To say that if someone desires to discuss their views, cause, etc... let them leave and find another forum, why? Logos is a digital library program built and centered around the Bible, Therefore everyone here is interested in the Bible in one way or another. Many of the other forums are a bunch of raving lunatics who just want to yell and scream. I have yet to see that here. Sure, some topics may get heated however I have yet to see it get out of hand. What I have seen are people who disagree come together and at the end of the day agree to disagree. That in itself is a reason TO KEEP the off topic discussions. I am personally interested to hear what others have to say as I find myself learning even if I may disagree with their views. I find it sad that people here only want to talk about "books" rather than the content that makes these books. And again, like others have said, if Logos finds these discussions to be offensive then they will act. They don't need to have others policing these forums for them. We are all adults and until we cease acting as adults we should be treated as adults.
Good point. I agree.

I also add my agreement to Bohuslav.

For some unknown reason, the forum software would not allow me to quote your post in which you stated that we are adults here. I just wanted to add my agreement.

Allan,
You'll note I didn't say what you object to. I said "for those who would come just to promote their cause, views, etc., let 'em leave" (emphasis added). I stand behind that. We've had them in the newsgroups, I remember them from another email discussion group I was a part of. They do not come to discuss, they only come to promote their views, or reinforce their own 'remnant' mentality,or persecution complex. Theological discussion groups attract these types.

I started this thread because a few discussions did get out of hand. Some were calling nationally known church leaders and each other 'kooks' or other equally edifying names. Entire theological streams and those who belong to them have been maligned, and other threads have been completely hijacked and gotten off track.
Apparently we're acting like adults -- just not very Christian ones.
But that's beside the point. The forum and the bandwidth belong to Logos. They pay for it, maintain it, etc. They get to say what it's here for. When pressed they assert that they do not want this forum to be a place for theological debate. They have said so. That settles it. Period.
Regarding "others policing these forums for them," if we don't police each other, they will. There are two and only two types of forums that will maintain their focus: moderated and self-moderated. I prefer self-moderated groups where we keep each other accountable. Mutual accountability does seem like a Christian concept to me (Eph 5:20). This is what I mean when I talk about 'policing' each other.
Finally, I agree that we all have Libronix to help us understand the Bible better. So Logos allows a degree of flexibility in the discussion forums on using their software and the resources it supplies. To interact with each other about the software and delving into the resources is completely legitimate. Long discussions that seek to malign the theologies of certain authors are not. Neither are discussions attempting to prove one's own understanding of a point of doctrine, or to prove a doctrinal position of a particular group over-against those of everyone else -- unless that discussion revolves around the use of Libronix software to get at these issues.
I have been a long-time subscriber to the newsgroups and lament their passing. The forums offer potential to engage a lot more people in the use of Logos' software. This will only happen if the forums stay focused. I believe it's up to us users to keep it focused, until we demonstrate to Logos that we can't be entrusted with that task -- in which case Logos will have to moderate them, or shut them down.

I agree with you. Keep the forum talk on Libronix and that is the only thing I am going to say in this thread.
