Does anyone teach doctrine classes to their congregation? If so what are your methods of preparation for teaching? Has anyone separated their concise theology books, from their exhaustive?
We have 2 sets of men going through Grudem right now. One group is going through his 20 questions book and the other is using BIble Doctrine. It's our third year that we done the 20 questions book and our first with Bible Doctrine. We've had tremendous success with both groups.
I teach the Bible Doctrine class and use the review and applications questions provided in the book to facilitate discussion. The men are expected to show up each week having read the chapter and written out answers to the questions. I use a few other books during my preparation (Piper, Driscoll, and a few others) and interject some additional material when I feel it's appropriate. We have a tendency to turn our discussions into more of a book study than a Bible study so I also try to work in some formal group BIble study every couple of weeks relating to the topic we are studying.
I'm not teaching at church but a student rather. So our SS teacher went through RC Sproul's Essentials of christianity which went through each major section and then subsections. Brought out great discussion.
Our pastor went through the Belgic Confession with the teens and now is going through the Council of Dordt and his gives them homework assignments.

When I started attending our church about 18 years ago (Riverside Bible Church, Columbus Ohio), our pastor was doing a series on Basic Bible Doctrine in the evening services. At a high level, it was broken down into 3 sections: systematic theology (not named that, but essentially what it was); christian responsibility; and eschatology. That series, especially the systematic theology messages - about 50 message, changed my life and were what made me join and stay with that church.

Wow, you are close to me. I worship at All Saints on High Street.
You know...I never thought about using a systematic theolgy for this purpose!
Not that i teach anything, but I've been through classes like this before and this would have been a great way to stay organized....
