Missing Table of Contents in J.I. Packer's "Concise Theology"
Hi,
What are the possibilities of getting a Table of Contents in Logos Resources missing them, like J. I. Packer's "Concise Theology"?
A Table of Contents improves the value of a resource almost 100%; make that 100% when the ToC is hyperlinked to the related content.
One would think in this technological-information age that a hyperlinked ToC could be relatively easily and inexpensively added to printed works without them.
Ideally, they would also contain an Index which is hyperlined also but first the ToC when one is focusing on just that one resource rather than using the underlying Logos Search engine function.
Convenient access is the key to using these Resources for practical use and application.
I am sending this to suggest@logos.com, but do any of you out there in Read Land also need this ToC feature where it is missing in any of your Resources?

You do know that you can see the table of contents for this book (and almost all Logos resources) by pressing CTRL-SHIFT-C, right (or toggle it on/off from the menu on the top-left, when you click the book-cover icon)?
I know what you mean about having a ToC at the beginning of a book, and often I look there when I first pick one up. But the ToC bar is even more handy, IMHO, since I can view it even when I'm in the middle of the resource, and want to see how the section I'm reading fits with the rest of the work.

Thank you Richard for your quick and solution-to-my-question. The answer is discussed in Vol. 1 of Morris Proctor's Training Manual, page 76, but he does not show the shortcut of Ctr+Shift+C, a needed addition.
Yes, it is "hidden" inside the "Panel Menu", but two conditions have to be met first:
1. One has to know to look there inside the "Panel Menu" which on page 95 of Morris Vol 1 Guide, is called "Resource Panel Menu", and
2. One has to have a resource open to it and the "Show Locator Bar" to show in the panel.
I either missed, didn't retain, or Morris did not show it in his this Summer Logos Camp in Bellingham, which I attended.
Won't it be GREAT when (positively thinking) the Morris 2 Training Manuals are online in Logos 4 responsive to a Search request? I understand that Logos has "sub-contracted" with Morris to provide the Help and training. I have been "spoiled" by other software with robust in-the-software Help function, some of which go online to get what is not in the software's included Help function.
Right now, one has to go to various places to get HELP questions answered - Morris' two training manuals, if they have them, online videos, the online Logos Forum, Wiki. Available time, energy, knowledge of where to go for Help, patient and persistence run out, especially for the new(er) "lay" users, which Logos 4 is aimed at in its hugely improved graphics user interface. In other words, such new(er) "lay" users have to be somewhat driven to get the Help they need. I know because, I have been using it for only a year and work with others in software, some of whom throw of their hands in frustration at not being able to get the Help they need in one place.
Further, how do you find specific topics and words in just the resource you are viewing, without leaving that resource showing on the screen? Got any neat show-cut like you shared for finding the Table of Contents ?
Again, a HUGE "thanks" for your answer to my prayer.

Topic searching is still in development in Logos4, and never really worked that well in Logos3 (IMHO).
But you can search for words from within a resource panel using CTRL-F.
The Hints and Tips in the Wiki might point you to a few more short-cuts and strategies you haven't thought of before.

Richard, thanks again. You are my man of the day. I had to check your name as I had the sense you really know this Logos 4 well and maybe even worked for Logos. Alas, your work as a pastor has fine-tuned your working knowledge, which I deeply appreciate your sharing!
Your enlightenment of the finding of a word or words via the short-cut of Ctrl-F provides the "index" I was looking for. You say topic searching is still under development in Logos 4. What further do you know would that provide as I can search for a word or words with this "index" search function? Would it allow to find themes or topics which are not the exact same word(s) as found in the text by the Ctrl+F function?
As long as we are on a roll, one more question to verify what I heard somewhere -
When I open to the "Home" page of Logos 4 and scroll at the top of that page to the right past the "Choose Preferred Bible", various books show up. Is it true that the Logos software engineers someway figured how to bring up various Resources I own to remind me of them by displaying different ones I have there? If true, it is a very helpful feature as I am still learning all I have in the Leader's Library plus the other Resources I have purchased since I first started with Logos back in 1995, but rarely used it, due to its steep learning curve, until Logos 4 came out this last November 2009.
I keep[ bumping into others who have an earlier Libronix engine version who have not used it much for the same reason.s I haven't. I am now an evangelist to encourage them to upgrade and use Logos 4. In fact a couple of us are discussing starting a local Logos User's Group to inform and encourage the use of the rich resources we have in the Logos Resource options. I find many of these people do not have the time nor inclination to dig into the various sources of Help. So, local friends can be a BIG help in bringing them up to current Logos 4 usages and reaping the blessings about the One Whose birthday we are now celebrating.
And yes, I already appreciate your latest tip on word searches with Ctrl+F!
Your earlier sharing of the unknown-to-me Table of Contents short-cup Ctrl-Shift+C is like sunshine in the sky after a gray, rainy, windy day.

Thanks for the encouragement. Yes, I'm a pastor and have been using Logos since version 1.6, when I was a missionary in the Dominican Republic. L4 is an amazing improvement. The little star under my icon, says that I'm a forum MVP. If you click that you'll see that there are a lot of us, all ready to help as we can. It's sort of another kind of minister to other ministers, if you know what I mean.

Topic searching would allow you to search for a topic across your whole library. To do that resources need to be 'tagged' properly to allow for that kind of searching, or a database would have to be created to allow searching one term and returning articles that speak to that term, including synonyms. So far, that's still in development, and I have no idea how far it's coming. (I brought it up originally, because I wasn't completely sure what you were asking for in searching a resource.)

Yes. It's supposed to be random, as is much of the content on the home page. And it serves just the purpose for which you find it helpful.

There are many such groups around. You may want to announce that here in either the Logos4 forum, or the General forum, state your general area and how to get a hold of you. It's been done before. If you put in an email address, be sure to mask it in some way like this: "name at myemailprovider dot com." (It keeps spam bots from harvesting your email from your post. Maybe you already know this.)
