I just got this great software for my PC for Christmas but I have no instructions as to how to begin the downloading process before I go to bed. And because of the holiday I cannot contact LOGOS for help. Can anyone help a newbie like me?
HELP!
Welcome to the forums, Charelle!
If you got a disc, you can install from that. If not, the downloadable setup program is at: http://downloads.logos.com/LBS4/Installer/Logos4Setup.exe . The download is just a bootstrap installer - it has to download about 40MB more to complete the setup. After the installation, the first time you run Logos, you'll be asked to log in with the same credentials you use to log in to the Logos web site. After that, depending on the edition of Logos you got, you may have a lot of resources to download.
There's a lot of support material at http://www.logos.com/support/windows . The best semi-official documentation is on the wiki - http://wiki.logos.com/ . There are links to a number of tutorial videos that are very good.
My personal recommendation is to start using the software to do what you might do without the software - study a passage, read a commentary, read a book of the bible, etc. As you encounter things you want to do or features you think will be useful, try to use them. If you can't figure them out or want more detail, refer to the wiki, the tutorial videos, or post questions here. There are some super-knowledgeable folks here who are amazingly gracious with their time.
Hope this helps,
Donnie
Thanks, Donnie for your speedy reply. I thought it would take til morning to get some help but I'm grateful it didn't. I got the Scholar's Library LE - LOGOS 4. And will begin the downloading process here soon. Thanks again for the insight! I so appreciate it and am really excited to get started.
After you install, the software will build it's index of your library; depending on your computer, that may run in the background for several hours--I let it run overnight since Logos is a litte flaky for me if I use it while it is indexing. YMMV. Don't judge the product until it is fully installed!
The videos are really helpful--but some were made several releases ago (so your screen will look a little different sometimes) and some were made with deluxe features that you might not have -- but you'll find with patience and video/wiki reviews that you will have more than enough information at your fingertips.
Happy Christmas,, Charelle! Your Christmas present will last the rest of your life! I recently upgraded to Scholars. You'll love it.
The forums are full of friendly, helpful people, many of them experts. I no longer need to go to Customer Service with my queries, as people have helped me with them through the forums, even for big problems like crashes. And the answers sometimes come within minutes of me sending the query!
Merry Christmas. What an excellent gift! Please know that the setup of the software can take a little while as it builds an index. This is a one-time process but depending on the speed of your computer it can take all night (or all day). You will be able to start using it, but you might notice that things are a little bit quirky.
Something that will probably be very helpful for you will be to go to http://www.logos.com/videos and click on your operating system. Watch the videos one by one following along. After you run through those you'll have a good understanding of the most basic of features. You will find that the more you use your software in the upcoming days, weeks, months, and then years and decades what you used to never even imagine doing in your Bible study because it would take too much time is now quick, easy, and most of all incredibly helpful to your understanding of God's Word. It does take time. I promise that for your first few hours or so you may feel a little lost and wondering if it wouldn't just be easier to study with a paper and ink Bible and physical books. Push through it, and you will never go back.
Hi Charelle!
On Jacob's videos link, you will need to choose PC or Mac according to your computer type. Once you do, also note the "user created videos" at the bottom. The value of several of these is that they show you how several of the "parts" fit together in a Bible study flow. Rather than just doing one task, you see how that task might be used in the context of study.
Welcome and many blessings on you with your new cool study tool!
Incidentally you might find further help and inspiration in the Logos4 forum, where people share their problems and their joys particularly relating to Logos4

In addition to what has already been said and the video link that Jacob provided I encourage you to watch everything Mark Barnes has created. Everything he has done is good quality and will walk you through actually using each feature of the software.
Welcome to the Logos family. Logos is a very powerful program and the Scholars pkg provides you with great resources for Bible study.
Others have given excellent suggestions in getting started. I might add that with this great resource to study the Bible, it also provides us with opportunites to exercise the virtue of patience. No one learns all the possibilities of Logos quickly. It is a learning experience. The forum provides lots of helpful people that are always ready to quickly help anyone that is having problems.
Enjoy.

Welcome, Charelle! What a wonderful gift someone gave you!
Logos user and MVP Mark Barnes has made an excellent set of videos for newbies to get started, from installation through the basic use of the software. Start with video #1 under "New users please watch these videos" on http://wiki.logos.com/. Hopefully after the busyness of the Christmas season dies down for him (he's a pastor), he'll continue with more of these.
