Has anyone noticed significant differences in running Logos4
with i7 quad vs i7 six core?

Thanks

I can't speak to a six core. One of the Logos developers did mention recently on another thread that their indexing process is built to use up to three extra cores / CPUs and that they do what they can on the non-UI thread for normal Logos functionality. My point is that the app may not be built to scale with however many cores / CPUs a machine has.

I can't quantify the difference solely in terms of cores, between my old Macbook and my new iMac, but it certainly runs better.

One of the other things about more cores is that it allows more work-intensive programs to run in the background without jitters in the foreground- iTunes/Netflix/Youtube, etc. I can completely reindex Logos and watch Hulu,  copy a DVD with Handbrake, and scan something in at the same time. Not that it happens often, but it's nice not to see any slowdowns.

Indexing uses up to 4 cores so a six core processor will have up to 2 spare cores for all other processes. If it is also hyper-threaded then it has a clear advantage over quad core hyper-threaded.

When you look at the benchmarks the six core is much faster than the four.

But does it make a big difference in running Logos4?

Clock speed always makes a difference, but I doubt it will be perceived to be faster than an i5 dual-core in normal operation of L4 unless you routinely run long searches of 5s or more! Indexing will be somewhat faster than i7 quad core but only because of clock speed as L4 will only use 4 cores at present.

Lag or response time for tabs seems not to respect the processor and some mighty i7's have not performed as one might expect.
