I am looking for info on Herod the Great, with regard to his death. I have been searching through my library, and it seems every one of the scholars believes his death was 4 B.C. All cite Josephus as the source for this.
Outside of Logos, I have read and heard stories from "scholars" who claim that this is wrong, that Herod died in 1 BC, and that the proof is to view early manuscripts of Josephus' "Works of Josephus", specifically "Wars of the Jews", and "Antiquities of the Jews", that were written prior to 1554. At some point around 1554 a copy error in these documents changed the source document for everyone on the death of Herod, making the data now 4 BC. This resource exists in Logos, I have checked it, it says 4 BC.
I cannot find anything to confirm or refute that these old Josephus manuscripts exists, from within Logos. It may not be available, but can anyone shed light on this? To me the people claiming this are not the authoritative "mainstream" scholars many have come to trust, but the evidence seems to objective (the manuscripts exist or they don't), I am perplexed.
Has anyone ever heard this theory, know of any sources in Logos, etc.?
Thanks!
