How do you search now?

With all the features Logos has been adding in to L4, how do you make searching easier for yourself?

I am studying "son of man" today and have not yet been brave enought to search ENTIRE COLLECTION. I am slowly working my way through some custom Collections - Theologies, then Dictionaries - looking for key passages and then I will study them one by one.

How would you do something like this?

I do that....

Sometimes I also do a google search and download the references to a passage list and put the article in a note file for later reference.

Not much differently. A plethora of results in "Entire Library" might force me to be more restrictive or restrict myself to the Topic section which appears only with Entire Library.

Why not? I often do that first to see what bubbles up to the top in the Ranked results, plus you also get the Topic results (as Dave mentioned).

I combine my search term with relative references

i.e. "Son of Man" NEAR <Ezekiel> this helps to filter incidental mentions with discussions of a term with a Biblical passage. This has the effect of only returning discussion that reference scripture, and usually those are more helpful.

Having resources prioritized should cause the results to be ordered based on your preferences.

I would be inclined to open the "Favorites" resource on the left, then create a folder with the topic. Underneath the topic create a folder "To Be Explored".

Perform a global search and drag things that look interesting directly from the search results to the "To Be Explored" folder. I tried this with my library and was surprised that I could not "drag" the reference from the title line. However, you can either open the resource and drag the tab to Favorites, OR you can hover over the search term in the result; i.e., "son" or "man" and drag the text to the Favorites folder. I verified that this last method will still open the resource in the correct location without having to open it during the scan of the search result.

Do your reading later from the Favorites folder. After you have dealt with a resource, either move it up into the topic folder for further research or delete it.

If this is a long project, don't forget to make a "Layout" with the name of the topic so you can come back to it later.

Since searching entire library is many times faster in L4 than in L3, I've been doing it more often, especially when I didn't get what I needed from targeted searches. Sometimes I search my entire library just for fun and randomly pick results to read, especially from books that I've long forgotten about being in my library.

The elders of my church bought a copy of Logos for our former Pastor as a present. I had him over to my house to help him get acquainted with the software. Just for fun I did a search on my library for his name and we found two different books whose authors had referred to him! The authors were friends, but he had no idea that he had been included in their books.
