why would they increase the gap
Maybe because at the present they don't know how to fill it? The loss of the Baker titles in Platinum is quite devastating to its value relative to Gold. Platinum now needs a commentary set or two to beef it up and make it a more appealing jump. Maybe the DSB? Preaching the Word? Tyndale? None of those are as good as the BECNT (as few as those volumes were). The loss of the Baker Encyclopedia also hurts. Logos will need to move the ISBE into Platinum to make up for it.
I hope Baker is not pulling back completely from Logos. While they have put some titles on pre-pub, news on the newer BECNT volumes has been totally absent. I also hope that Logos' decision to publish the EEC hasn't created bad feelings elsewhere.
No point in speculating I suppose. Thankfully the Baker volumes will still be available.
EDIT: There have been advantages for being with Logos for awhile. I have the Jerome Biblical Commentary (the 1968 edition, never updated in Logos), the DSB (still not available since being pulled), and now the Baker volumes (still available). I guess (long term) membership does have its privileges.

I wonder whether, by removing some of the content from Platinum and leaving Portfolio more or less intact, they might be preparing for the introduction of a new package that would come between Platinum and Portfolio, something that users have been asking for. It would presumably include the content that was removed from Platinum plus some more stuff. Just speculation, but otherwise why would they increase the gap between Platinum & Portfolio when people have been complaining that it's too big of a jump to upgrade from the former to the latter?
I am waiting for the upgrade for portfolio [:D]... Maybe portfolio plus... or diamond

Timing seems to play a part also. It seems to me that Pannenburg's Systematic Theology was targeted for Platinum until Portfolio appeared, so there may be a little history in what Rosie is speculating.

They could call it the Diamond package. However, if Logos wants to continue with the whole precious metal theme, the next package should be called Rhodium - but that doesn't sound too awe inspiring.

Yes would be helpful to know plans for RI, but some poor soul may have to do it manually like they did for 1984

as for part of question 2, the Upgrade chart in Logos4 shows a footnote which indicates that the NIV (supposedly the 2011 since it is for the new package) will have RIs for both NT & OT.

http://www.logos.com/comparison lists NIV Reverse Interlinear with the footnote that the license is included but we don't yet have any files. The reverse interlinear will be for the same version of the Bible that's included in the collection, i.e., the 2011 NIV. I don't know how soon it will be available.

I'm glad that the 2011 version will get the RI.
I also noticed that you didn't answer my first question about the 1984 NIV OT RI. Since it's been a work in progress, I trust it will be finished. But your lack of assurance isn't very assuring.

I am happy about the NIV 2011 however the cutting of all Baker titles from the Platinum is actually crippling the package. Those titles had been my main reason to upgrade from the Gold package. I am glad for the Logos policy to leave those titles with the current users but I am really sorry for the new customers. I think Platinum should be filled up with some replacement titles like some of you mentioned already: ISBE, Tyndale and other, but it still would not be the same value IMHO. I see it as a major defeat, especially for the Platinum Package that was in fact the most reasonable value for pastors and teachers.

I agree with the idea that Logos should fill up Platinum with some replacement titles and have us "Old Platinum" users keep our content and just have us pay an upgrade fee to have access to the new "replacement content" as it's been stated before. As I said before so say I now again: "I love the fact we got to keep our baker content...pheww!!!"

Wow, this is REALLY disappointing! [:'(]
I was planning on upgrading from Silver to Platinum sometime this year and the BECNT was a MAJOR reason I wanted it. This removes $225 worth of top-notch content from a $600+ upgrade. Pillar and BDAG are the only other things in Platinum that are really interesting to me.
Makes me wish I picked up the Pillar volumes that are in Plat during the 1/2 off 2010 Christmas sale, then I would consider bypassing Platinum until Logos 5 or whenever they upgrade the packages next.
Edit: After rereading through the OP and rest of this thread, and looking at the Baker items removed from the Plat package, I find it to be a little disingenuous of Logos to call this a "minor maintenance update." I guess how they describe the change doesn't really matter since no one can go back and buy the older version of the package, but I just wish they were a little more up front about it.

NET Bible notes for 1 Samuel 20:30: "...A better English approximation of the sentiments expressed here by the Hebrew phrase would be “You stupid son of a bitch!” However, sensitivity to the various public formats in which the Bible is read aloud has led to a less startling English rendering which focuses on the semantic value of Saul’s utterance (i.e., the behavior of his own son Jonathan, which he viewed as both a personal and a political betrayal [= “traitor”])."

Did you censor yourself, or did the forum software censor that quote?
The Message renders it, "You son of a slut!" (let's see if that gets censored - [:)]) EDIT: Yup, that got censored. It was supposed to be S-L-U-T.

Rosie,
The forum censored that quote...as you may have already found out [:P]
Let's see if it censors the King James Version of 1 Samuel 25:22, "... pisseth against the wall." And Revelation 19:2, "...hath judged the great whore." Deuteronomy 23:2, "A bastard shall not enter the congregation..." Alright, that's enough...we wouldn't want to get involved in a discussion of the KJV unique terms like "unicorn" so on and so forth (Job 39:9)...hehehe.
Edit too: only "illegitimate son" got censored.

Agree! Fortunately I bought in time, but I feel for you who didn't. Not only does the full Platinum now cost about $420 more than I payed, now it's also got ... well, certainly well above $600 less of resources in it. That's some change for the worse!

That is another good question. If the answer be "Nope" I find myself on the better side of the fence this time. I've still got the Baker titles and I would much rather keep my "1984 NIV only" library holdings than have it be a "2011 NIV only" library.
(This is not to be mistaken as a promotion of NIV over other versions. It is only a preference of the 1984 NIV over the later versions of NIV)

Hey Phil:
Pardon my ignorance but is there any indication the KF upgrade is successfully completed from the Help > About page? Mine shows:
Logos Bible Software 4.0b SR-2 (4.10.4.8574)
My reason for asking is that I submitted for the free crossgrade > downloaded the .dmg image > launched it (with Logos shut down) and, after running, Logos4 simply restarted. So, I've no indication that Logos4 was updated to the KF crossgrade.
Thanks in advance for your response.

You go through the upgrade process just as if you were going to buy a book or upgrade to a higher base package. It will then show as an upgrade on your account page with all your other purchases, except the cost is zero.

Two of the three mentioned can be downloaded from the Logos ftp site: ftp://ftp.logos.com/lbxbooks/
Look for LLXXIVAR.lbxlls and GS_NETNOTES.lbxlls
The Lectionary is not in Logos 3 format.
I imagine the new NIV will be made available in Logos 3 format.
You can download the two available files directly to your Libronix Resources folder. You may need to synch your licenses to be able to see them.

Hi folks.
I wanted to reassure everyone that we will be completing the 1984 NIV OT Reverse Interlinear. We've had some issues to work through but are confident we'll be able to complete and release it. We are, at present, about halfway complete with the alignment; when it is complete, if you have a license, you will get it.
I have no current estimate on when the 2011 NIV reverse interlinears will be complete; there are a number of factors at play. I can safely say, however, that the 2011 OT will be available after the 1984 OT (we will need to use the 1984 as part of the process to create the 2011 alignment).
Thanks for your patience while we work out the issues on this one.

Thanks, Rick. Does this mean you'll be skipping over the TNIV entirely in implementing reverse interlinear. That would be a disappointment to some of us, myself included, who plan to stick with TNIV in spite of the new 2011 NIV release.

I think there are better things to worry about than a RI. For example will logos try to replace the lost content with some other resources? I suggest for them to replace the BECNT and Baker's NT commentary with the Exegetical Commentary Bundle: http://www.logos.com/product/7605/exegetical-commentaries-bundle. I wouldn't mind paying an upgrade fee to add that bundle to my old content. I think that would serve as an incentive to the new buyers who are practically paying the same amount of cash for less resources and it would help us see the new KF package as a REAL upgrade. Any one else agrees?

Baker and Logos have just saved me $850!!! I have been seriously thinking about upgrading from my OL/Scholars edition to Platinum, but now that Baker backed out of the package (and my upgrade price went up $50), I have very little incentive to actually upgrade. My wife will be happy about this [:D]

I too share your feelings Michael. Yesterday, after first checking with my Logos sales rep, I decided to upgrade from Silver to Platinum. For me this upgrade was still well worth the money, especially for the Pillar and NIGTC commentaries (not to mention the Horae and UBS Handbooks). When I calculated the retail value for these commentaries plus certain other resources, it was still a much better deal than buying these resources otherwise. Notwithstanding, the loss of the Baker commentary (content) was a bitter pill to swallow. Like so many, I only wished I had known about this change last month, especially given the discounts offered by Logos. [:(]
Taking the advice of veteran Logos users, I have primarily concentrated on upgrades to my base packages, although I have grabbed some other resources along the way. Without a doubt this is the best way to build your library. For me the journey has taken me from Bible Study, then quickly onto Scholar (primarily for Text Comparison), Silver, and now Platinum.
Now at Platinum I think my upgrading of base package has ended. When I consider the more substantial cost to upgrade for the resources offered in Portfolio I do not see any real value for me. Obviously this is a subjective conclusion as I am sure the additional resources exceed the actual upgrade cost, but at this level the Platinum library offers everything I need/want, and more to the point, the resources (especially commentaries) I am looking for (influenced by websites like Best Commentaries or Logos users). There are no remaining commentaries that I am really looking for in the Portfolio library. So after I finish paying for my last upgrade I can safely concentrate on buying the remaining commentaries I would like without the worry of missing out in a great base package deal.
To be honest, I am rather surprised that there is really nothing of interest in that package to me. I realize others have upgraded and would disagree, so I would appreciate knowing what remaining resources are in this last package that I have missed in my review?
As for the Baker commentary now missing from Platinum, I intend to purchase it either as a set or individually as the need arises. Hope they also release the individual books for other popular commentaries like WBC. It would be ideal if Logos offered all the top 2 commentaries cited at Best Commentaries both in sets and as individual titles. Anyway I have overstayed my welcome.

I'm feeling the same way, though I'm holding at the original Platinum...
Was hoping for another stepping stone package like ones we've enjoyed in the past. But $1200 for Portfolio & $2000 for the only real Christmas package that I saw as valuable, I'm starting to conclude:
- I'm very blessed to have Platinum.
- Upgrade packages are now targeted at those whose means are much (not just a little) greater than mine.
Blessings to you!
