Backup and Restore of Libronix
There have been many discussions on migrating Libronix from one computer to another and wanting to share or synchronise specific Libronix folders e.g. Notes/Annotations. There are many generic programs that can satisfy this need but I'd like to present a solution that is specific to Libronix, that uses the relevant folders to achieve a secure backup of your user files and preferences so that you don't have to start from scratch each time you move computers, and that also enables a succesful migration/transfer without inserting every Libronix CD you purchased in the past!
As a bonus, it also enables you to synchronise multiple installations of Libronix.
It works across a LAN, but doesn't reach into the clouds!
It works on Windows XP/2000, Vista and Windows 7.
For the tech minded, it uses Robocopy which is supplied with Vista/Win7 but a copy is attached for Win XP/2k.
More details,explanations and error
messages can be found in the
enclosed Instructions and procedures.

Dave, You would not believe how I appreciated your little program a few days ago. As I installed new Service Pack 2 to my Vista, something went wrong and I had to reinstall my whole Notebook [:(]
It was the easiest thing of all other programs to make my Logos work as usual with your program. No complicated copying of files and not knowing if you really have everything. Just make sure you have your license backup done fresh and than it is very easy.
Thank you so much for this great tool.

THANK YOU!
Seems like Logos ought to snatch this up with glee ... particularly if you're offering it gratis with sourcecode.
Does it work properly if the "My Documents" LBS folder is on a different drive / partition than the "Programs" LBS is? Does it have the smarts to chase down alternative Resource paths, if any are input in Options? Are there any known glitches?
sorry I haven't read the instructions yet [:$]

If My Docs is re-allocated to a non-standard location, the script will not find it. But if you define the location of User Files (normally in My Docs) using Tools > Options > Power Tools the scripts will work.
You have to specify the Resource Path if it is in a non-standard location. I don't use the Libronix file containing your resource paths because there could be multiple paths and it is difficult to know which one is valid!

As I played with this backup tool in VISTAs today, I run into a problem I haven't had before. It showed me an error message that WIndows does not recognize those files as an executable files. I run Permission.cmd file a few times and I think I messed it up. It works now only when I turn off the UAC function in the User Accounts. When I turn it on, it does the error again. Do you have any idea how to make it work? Is there any registry entry I can work on? Or some security settings? Thanks for any piece of advice.
Bohuslav
Permissions.cmd does require Admin elevation - just right click to run
as Administrator. Once done, the restore scripts/functions will execute
without privilege.
Yes, I run it in Admin mode (by right click, finding the admin mode there). It worked before. I did something to my security system I think. That is why when I do it in UAC turned off, it works.

Just for you Dave to know, it still does not work for me. It says always something like that: (I translate it from my Czech Vista) "BackupLibronix is not name of inner or outer command, executable program or batch file." Similar thing is written also about the BackupResources. Is it just me? Any advice? Funny thing is, it worked perfect for me, before I made a really nice comment about the tool here in this forum [:)]

Dave,
I wanted to thank you for your efforts in creating this Backup-Restore process. I have watched it for some time and although had no need for it because I could backup to a disc without a problem. Thankfully my collection of titles has grown in the last few weeks that I can't do that any longer. I am grateful to you process as I can now run it to an 8GB flash drive and it works great!!!
Thank you so much for your efforts.

Ken

Dave,
Just a quick couple of questions. The install directions indicate the necessity of installing the program from disks because otherwise the addins won't be added or work correctly. Does that mean that PBB addin must be re-downloaded? On a reinstall I did manually I used the http://www.logos.com/media/update/LogosAddinsAutoUpdate.lbxupdscript, which seemed to add all missing addins. Is that asking for trouble?
Thanks,
Dudley

If the PBB addin is not part of a normal installation it must be installed separately e.g. I keep the msi file for SmartTags to avoid re-downloading (you can find others in the \Inbound folder). If it is not offered initially when re-installing from DVD I would try again (from DVD) after your licence has been restored.

It is! Some data components are not installed from the web.

Great work on the batch files :-), Maybe Logos should implement a similar backup utility like the one in iTune, backup all your libronix book to a DVD :-)
