n00B who needs help building what SHOULD be a basic syntax search...

Hello everyone!

I am trying to build what seems to me should be a pretty simple search in the GNT. I simply want to find every instance of eis plus the accusative in Paul. Now that sounds like something that should be fairly simple but I am not able for some reason to make that happen.

For the record what I am trying to do more than that is to find everywhere in Paul where this construction can express purpose.

Well, the simplest way to do this is with a proximity search.

This search should probably also be run against Pronouns that are in the accusative as well, just to be on the safe side.

Another way to search for this would be a syntax search. Here's how to do it in Cascadia

This one was able to also take into account pronoun hits as well as noun hits in one search. It looks like it found more.

But wait, there's more! The Lexham Syntax resource tags with Semantic force.

Thank you Kevin! In your syntax resource tags, how did you get it to say "Syntax Notes = preposition of purpose"? I can find the first types by putting the lexical form in, but the second part eludes me.

If you haven't already noticed this type of tagging is only available in the Lexham SGNT, not OpenText or Cascadia.

Here's a simpler version of Cascadia:

You can always simplify by including the Head Node information directly into the phrase type.

Because Cascadia treats the accusative noun as the head of the prepositional phrase, you can include that information directly at the phrase level right with the phrase type = Prepositional and save yourself same clicking.
