latest update - indexer crashing

Hello - after the latest update my indexer crashes upon any startup. I've seen this problem on the forum but didn't experience it myself until now.

So did the latest update try to fix this issue? If so, it made it worse for me. I also just downloaded some new resources (not any of the culprits listed in other posts) so perhaps that affected it also.

Without a crash log, it's hard to diagnose the problem, but you could try "rebuild indexes" as described here: http://community.logos.com/forums/p/30549/226307.aspx#226307

My indexing process was at 80% when I went to sleep last night, but I turned of my laptop. Right now, it started all over again and it's currently at 9% -- How come it didn't continue from 80% and up? It will take at least 5-7 hours to finish which if you add last nights 4 hours it will add up to between 9-11 hours. Anyway, patience I guess. I just hope that once it's done and I turn my laptop off it doesn't try to restart the indexing process again. We shall see....[:S]

Shutting down your laptop in the middle of indexing will cause it to lose its place. If you can't leave it running place it on standby/sleep.

Bradley - OK. Thanks. I assume this will be a long process to reindex? I have many resources. Do you have the best link to posting the crash log? I may post that first to see what you think.

I recommend turning on logging, issuing the Rebuild Index command as Bradley suggested. Upload logs if it crashes again.

Not Bradley, but if you post the crash log, post the Logos4Indexer.log file too. The crash log gives the type of crash, the indexer log may show the specific module/resource that is causing the problem.

Thanks Kevin! I'll do that if I have to go out today. It's a little bit annoying because a while ago it was at 9% and now it's barely at 13% - oh well, it will get done today, I PROMISE! [:P]

OK. Do you have the best log info link? I'm not up to speed on what logs logos keeps and where they are. I have not manually enabled any logs, so if say the crash log does not run automatically I don't have it anyway. Thanks!

The crash log should be generated automatically and found in your ...Documents/Logos Log Files/ folder.

Follow following all the instructions in the link below. Run Logos and let the indexer run until it crashes. Do not restart Logos before posting all logs here for review (see link below for how to upload logs).

We released 4.2a SR-1 this late this morning to resolve the indexer crash some users were getting after installing 4.2a. If you haven't installed SR-1 yet, or entered the 'rebuild index' command to resolve the problem, I recommend entering the 'update now' command to install the fix.

If 4.2a from yesterday did the full index will updating to 4.2a SR-1 restart the index program from scratch again? [all 3 hours of it?]

If 4.2a re-indexing completed successfully, SR-1 will not re-do the index.

OK. SR-1 installed successfully and the indexer is no longer crashing. Will it reindex ok now on its or do I need to do the command? I guess a periodic reindex is good anyway?Thanks.

If it indexes without crashing, you won't need to rebuild the index.

Periodic reindexing should not be necessary with 4.2a, and is unlikely to show any speed/performance increase anyway.
