iPad 2 vs Xoom

I'm going to buy one or the other but am not sure which would be the best (at this second because when I get up in the morning something else will be better, ie, iPad 3). JFWIW, I am thinking of the iPad 64gig

Any thoughts and/or reasons? except for the fact that there is no droid app at this moment (see above)

well the Xoom and Honeycomb are new, they have very very few apps native as in less than 100

the Ipad is tried and true and has 65000 native ipad apps

the ipad 2 just re;eased today is cheaper than a Xoom but similar hardward but now thinner and lighter

The ipad original price is now dropped $100 less

Frankly I am very happy with the first ipad dont need a camera or the extra horse power as it is very fast anyway so to me it is a no brainer the first ipad would do fine and alot less or pay slightly less than the Xoom which is still a bit buggy hardware and software wise and grab the ipad 2 and get access to 6400 more native apps.

Hardware comparison seems similar between iPad 2 and Xoom - thousands more applications available for iPad (many are free and useful).

With Apple and Google both enforcing content in-app purchasing, not know future of Logos application(s) on Android and iOS - add in-app purchasing (possibly with resource usage restriction based on where purchased) or abandon (only use Biblia.com for mobile library access). Adding in-app purchasing is expensive; needs integration with logos.com order history along with 30 % of in-app purchase revenue going to Apple or Google.

If Logos is primary reason for Android purchase, recommend waiting for Logos application. Android caution: market has more malware apps - please choose carefully => http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9212598/Google_yanks_over_50_infected_apps_from_Android_Market On Android, appears antivirus would be prudent (already available too).

Personally have appreciated using Logos offline on an iPad during church services - much easier to handle than a laptop or PC tablet - quick to display Bible verse - like being able to compare 2 Bible versions or have Bible and Commentary side-by-side (easy to change commentary or Bible version). Also finding NET Bible footnotes quite useful to augment sermon. Hoping for Logos application improvement to include visual filter highlighting and notes. Looks like Logos Android application should have same capabilities.

No it wont .it wont run any form of Logos it will only run less than 100 native apps while the ipad has 6500 native apps

So it is just ridiculous to even consider one at this stage, maybe in 6 months if they get some more decent apps. Its all about apps. no apps no use.

Just saw a demo video on Engadget of the new ipad 2 showings its speed and as the guy said it is blazingly fast even faster than the Xoom it leaves it in the dust yet the ipad 1 is very very fast anyway

Personally, I'm continuing my wait to see what the new 10.1" Galaxy S Tab is like. As much as I like the form factor of the iPad, I can't see investing in one. Too many limitations and shortcomings for my taste.

Will probably go with the iPad, though one of the other docs here is using one with our new EMR and is having a hard time getting the hang of it - don't really know why - we just had a very brief hallway consult and didn't get into details. Does the iPad come with a stylus? I hate fingerprint smudges

I noticed someone mentioning the new protocols for Apple software. I have read (I believe it was the a Vice President with Apple), state that the new policy was not intended to be aimed at software, indeed it seems hard to see how it can even be effected against Amazon. Apples in App purchasing option is limited to 3000 items and under. Apple I am quite sure will be clarifying things, for the most part Apple is better than many other options like kindle, who take a 70% cut and then demands a delivery fee, some publications that are on Kindle when al is said and done get less than a $1 for what AMAZON charges $10 for. Apple's plan has forced Amazon to reduce their's down to 30% as well, but only for Amazon's largest clients. I have little doubt their policy was worded in such away to try to force barns and noble and amazon to provide some revenue to Apple, but it won't work. Barns and Noble have several compatible readers out there and Amazon would only have to minor reworking on Stanza to make this third party free reader Kindle book compatible. And as I said before the Apple model for in App purchasing requires a catalog under 3000 items, which would seem to exclude any company with large book options.

I actually decided to purchase the iPad (32 GB-WiFi) last year because of it's many features and applications. However, the major reason for my opting for the iPad is because of it's seamless use between the iPad and my Mac computers. Had it not been for the applications, along with my being a Mac user, I might have waited for one of the Android devices.

Although I probably won't purchase an iPad 2 (will wait for the iPad 3), I know I made the right decision for me. However, if I were a PC user or used a Blackberry, I probably would have seriously considered the RIM Playbook or the Motorola Zoom. Both are really great devices, although I've not actually held the Playbook yet, but neither would work with the multitude of Mac applications that I use frequently; therefore, the iPad is the best device for me.

In terms of size, because I don't use my iPad for music or movies, the 32 GB is more than enough. I have lots of books and data on my iPad, but have still used less than 10 GB. I still think 16 GB was too small for me and 64 GB was too large. It seems as though 32 GB was the sweet spot for me. So, before you make a decision, it's probably good for you to decide exactly what you want to accomplish on the tablet device you'll purchase and then get the one that will work best for all that you want to achieve (i.e. video, pictures, applications, programs, document creation, calendar, etc.)

I am quite satisfied with my XOOM...especially the speed, ports, and ability to customize the UI. Still waiting for the Logos Android App.
