Free MacArthur book on Romans

I was happy to see the free book by John MacArthur on Romans. (Announced via NewsWire, Blog and L4 home page -- I guess you're serious!)

But before I install it to Libronix, I was wondering if there was an opportunity to test the purchasing component of L4. Since I'm not preaching out of Romans this week, I can easily wait for something to be set up to test.

I know I could set it up through L3 and then scan the directory. I'm sure that might be quicker for now, but I decided to see if the fine folks in Bellingham might want to test out L4's purchasing engine.

So I'll hold off, until I hear from someone from Logos who can tell me if this is possible yet. If not, I'll do it the old fashioned way [heavy sigh].

God bless you guys!

    Rich,

I'm certainly not the voice of authority but FWIW I do not recall reading anything about this being set up just yet.

Hmm Sarcasm is my love language. Obviously I love you.

Rich I purchased (okay its free) through the purchase app on the website last night when I heard about - yes I like free books too [:D] - and it updated into L3 and L4 last night. So I have it in L4 right now.

    In Christ,

The "purchasing component" of Logos 4 is logos.com.

The MACSGROM.lbxlls file is already published on our Resource File Server; as soon as it's unlocked on your account (e.g., by "buying" it on logos.com), Logos 4 will download it the next time you start the program.

There is no need to explicitly scan your LDLS3 resources folder after installing it in LDLS3.

This is a great feature for me in two ways. First, it simplifies purchasing, but second, I occasionally  buy my son resources for his license. He only remembers to install them when I visit him or he visits me and I walk him through it and we only see each a couple times a year. Now they will show up for him right away.

    Thanks!

I should have realized that when I purchase it for L3, I'll get it automatically in L4.

I guess what I was wondering is this: can I bypass L3 altogether. We're on RC5. I'm assuming that L4.0 will allow us to purchase directly for L4, with no need of L3. It appears that the unlock/download components are still tied together and are still tied to L3. I'm assuming that L4 will not require L3 for purchases in the future.

Okay, so I just clicked on the button to unlock it, and notice it uses L3 to do it. I didn't download it through the L3 update module. I restarted L4 and it's not seeing it yet. It'll probably take a few minutes to make it to the right database so my L4 can see it.

Yes, you do not need to update v3.  Once you unlock it on Logos.com it will download to v4.

Yes, LDLS3 can be bypassed completely. All purchasing for Logos 4 will happen through logos.com; there's no Tools > Unlock dialog any more. Once you purchase on logos.com, you will still be offered an "Unlock and Download" script. This is purely for backwards compatibility with LDLS3, and doesn't need to be run for Logos 4. Instead, all that needs to happen is to restart Logos 4 (while online, of course). It will detect and download your new licenses automatically when you sign in, then kick off a check for new resources (to match those licenses), and then start downloading them.

We realise that this is a little awkward, because there's no notification shown while checking for updates, and no big progress bar telling you how long until your new book is installed, and you end up having to restart Logos 4 twice before the book actually appears. This is a workflow we hope to tune more (to make purchasing as pleasant as possible!) in a future release.

"Restart twice..." I remember that from somewhere. Where was that?

Too bad I clicked on that unlock/download button. I would have loved to prove you right. Oh well, next time I buy something from you guys (rumors have it we are counting down from 10 since Tuesday for something), I will bravely not click anything that says "Unlock and Download" and will see if L4 does it's own "Lock and Load" of my new resources.

Bradley, it worked perfectly; I couldn't figure out how it just "did it" and I had the resource....but now I know....

But....but...NOW what are we gonna complain about....???

    Hi

I noticed that John MacArthur on Romans was sold few years ago as part of

    • John MacArthur's Lifeworks (1.0?),
    • it was also part of eBible: Platinum.  may be others.

In fact I went to the Prepub page to look at the description of every one of the Resources, all these were sold as part of the above mentioned packages, maybe the only difference is with the old Study Bible. (Please correct me if this is not correct)  The name of the file appeared to be the same.  So if you already have these resources via your other purchases, watch before you purchase.

In the pass I will happilly downloaded the free resources, and later found that it was already part of the Christmas Library Builder I bought during those Christmas Offers. So now I check before I do it.

Any way I am sure those who do not own this resource will appreciate it.  But, I thought will be good, if information about the resource being part of an existing collection would be useful for some of us who already own it.  So that we do not place order on resources that we already own ...
