BUG: Highlight colour is not remembered when using shortcut (Ctrl + k)

Hi, I have the problem that I have set the highlight colour to Yellow, and it remains selected in the highlight pane. However, when I go to a resource and select text and press Ctrl + k, the highlighing colour is red. The only way I can make the text yellow highlighting is to make the window small (it is normally a floating window and maximised), and move it around so that I can see the highlight pane, and with the text selected I then click the Yellow highlighter on the highlighting pane. If I try to immediately highlight another text, it reverts back to Red again, and I have to go through the same process again to make it yellow.

It would be great to have the selected highlight colour work when using the shortcut.

It would be even better if right-clicking on the selection provided an option to choose highlighting and select the colour, without having to go through the process above each time a different colour is desired. (The highlighting pane cannot be added to a floating window, so the long process is unavoidable when changing colours).

I'm using 4.2a-SR1 on Windows 7 64-bit.

BTW, I tried to change my signature, but couldn't find how to do it in my profile etc. Can anyone please remind me how to do that?

I can't reproduce this - for me, Ctrl-K highlights with the last used highlight as it should, and as you are asking for.

I am using 4.2a SR2 on WIndows 7 64-bit (I don't believe that this was changed when moving from SR1 to SR2).

Do you get this behaviour for all resources or just specific ones?

That is best raised in Uservoice.

Click Edit at the top of a forum, Select "Site Options" and the section allowing changes to your Signature is towards the bottom.

John, I don't know why you're having problems with ctrl+k... have you tried assigning a shortcut to your yellow highlighter so you don't have to use the ctrl key? See: http://wiki.logos.com/Highlighting#Shortcut_keys

To change your signature click the "Edit" link at the top right of the page. Then click the Green "Site Options" button, scroll down until you see the signature text box, make your edits then scroll to the bottom and click save.

Some Logos users find using deskpins helpful in keeping floating windows "on top" so that they don't minimize when dragging other resources such as the highlighting tool to them. It also works for other applications such as word processors.

Problem occurs with multiple resources.

Click Edit at the top of a forum, Select "Site Options" and the section allowing changes to your Signature is towards the bottom.

That's great, I was hunting around 'Profile Options' for ages but couldn't find it.

it is. I've used this for a while now "O" is orange, "B" for blue...etc....I have 10 colors on my most used pallet and it's a breeze to just hit one key and get a highlight.

I wonder if you'd mind helping us troubleshoot the Ctrl+K issue by enabling logging, reproducing the unwanted behavior, and attaching a Logos4.log to this thread?

I've just done the same, with the capital letters like you have done. I wish I had done that a long, long time ago. It makes highlighting in different colours a breeze now.

Well...mine technically aren't caps....I just typed them that way in my comment, to highlight I just push o, or b, or p, or y, or g, etc.....lower case....on key only.

Now, here's what's happened. I've set up shortcuts as noted in the posts above. That is brilliant. It allows me to easily highlight in a variety of colours. I no longer need to go to the Highlighting palette any longer. I therefore closed it to free up some more space on my layout. Then I saw your email, so I started L4 with the Ctrl key to start logging. Guess what? There was no longer a problem!!!!! I tried to reproduce the problem on a variety of resources, but it worked perfectly. Bizzare.

So, I opened L4 again. For some reason it crashed immediately, but that seems irrelevant, as it very occasionally does that at startup. I started it again with Ctrl pressed. I rolled back to an earlier layout where the Highlighting palette was just like it used to be. I then reproduced the problem. This time, instead of highlighting in yellow, it was blue when I pressed Ctrl + K, even though the yellow was selected on the palette. I then closed the highlighting palette and re-opened it again. I checked a few times and it was working properly. I closed L4 then, so the problematic activity should appear near the end of the file. I've opened L4 and reset to the newish layout without the highlighting, and it works as it should again.

So, it seems to have been related to the layout, and was reproduced. I've attached the log file.

I'm glad that it's working correctly now, and also that I've been helped out with the shortcuts that make life so much easier, as well as releasing valuable layout screen area for other things.

Yes, mine likewise. I must have been thinking of the capitals that L4 shows when displaying the highlighting palette.
