Question on Anchor Bible Dictionary and Word bible commentary

Anyone purchased these? Worth the 1000k cost?
Thanks

All thumbs up for the Anchor Bible Dictionary.
Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

My only concern about ABD is that it is riddled with Wellhausen's disease (documentary hypothesis). But if you can hold your nose through the articles that rely on that still-born silliness, it has much to recommend it. Word is good too.
I would recommend bumping up your base package to one that has these included if possible.

David,
To the best of my knowledge these are not included in any base packages.
Just wanted to save the OP time in looking for them!

Graham, perhaps you a right on that point. I purchased them separately, but I also have Portfolio and thought they were at least included in it. I might be wrong.
I do know there are a few different packages that include Word and I believe one of those would provide a greater value in terms of bang for your buck as opposed to making a single item purchase. ABD is in a couple of packages too, though they may be rather expensive. I do suggest scouring the website or talking to a sales rep.

I've got Portfolio too and neither is part of the package. Maybe it will be in Plutonium or Kryptonite packages whenever they create an "everything " upgrade.\
edited Sorry everyone. I must have been posting in my sleep last night. [|-)]

Ok, MJ...I stand corrected.
But to quote Galileo, "it still moves".

Yes you are wrong [:P] No package includes Anchor Bible Dictionary or Anchor Bible Commentaries or Word Biblical Commentary so your statement that "ABD is in a couple of packages" is totally inaccurate also. You must be talking about some other software or perhaps you're posting in the wrong software's forum...LOL...anyway, just making sure u don't spread false information cuz then it becomes gossip or a lie. I own the WBC and have found it to be very worthy of it's price tag. Perhaps if I had the ABD I'd be able to compare, but so far the ABD has remained on my wishlist only.
Sarcasm is my love language. Obviously I love you.

Anchor Bible Dictionary is well worth the price, it is the most exhaustive Bible Dictionary out there. As pointed out at times it can be a bit liberal/critical(many would simply say scholarly). And the archaeological information in it is wonderful. While many conservatives will prefer the wonderful 79-88 ISBE, they are very different creatures and both should be in any Bible scholars library, in my humble opinion. If you are only able to purchase one and etymological studies are more important to you than historical information (that is not to say ISBE doesn't have strong history, just ABD is more complete and extensive, in general).
