Head Covering in Pillars 1 Corinthians

I may have misread something, but thus far, it seems like PNTC on 1 Corinthians endorses "Head covering" for the women.

Personally, I really don't mind if a woman wears a veil or not, but it seems to me that these two great scholars believe women should wear a veil.

I'm getting comfortable with this commentary more and more. I'm still disappointed for the explanation they have on 1 Cor. 7:15, but over all the treatment on 1 Cor. 6:9-11 and other interesting passages is great. When the Bible talks about Homosexuals is not only referring to people who have that sinful life style, but to those who practice it every now and then like the ancient people did. You know, men with wife and kids, but all of the sudden in a party they decided to engage themselves in a one night stand homosexual act.

Man! I can't wait for the next volume to come out. I wonder which one will it be. Here's the list of forthcoming volumes:

I don't think the authors are extrapolating from the context that the letter was written in to apply the head covering stipulation to the present day. They quite clearly say "In the Roman world..." and use the word "context" often. When suggesting an equivalent in our current age to the licentious image that an unveiled woman's head would communicate in the Roman world, they refer to the sexually provocative hairstyles of some people on TV, in popular magazines, and at the Academy Awards ceremonies.

Does that mean that not even the "nature" argument would apply to us today? To me it does. I don't see how a man can have long hair and lead us in worship to God or a woman have her head shaved or a man's haircut and be ok. I think the authors state that there must be a distinction between a man and a woman when it comes to worship God. I don't think wearing a veil really matters.

But anyway, I'd rather keep the veil in its Greco-Roman world context. I wouldn't keep the "nature" argument there though.

Well George, not to contradict you, but I didn't really bring it up in the first place. I had just made a statement about what I thought" the PNTC volume on 1 Corinthians was teaching and Rosie just corrected it by pointing out that the author clearly mentioned "in the Roman world" and "context." After that I just stated that in my opinion the "nature" argument still applies, but that, in essence, I didn't want to get into a Theological discussion.

Sooo, that being said, there's no need for you to bite your tongue...[;)]...no issues have been discussed or are being discussed. My apologies if you got that impression.

I have a thought that I didn't grow up in a church that teaches women to have headcoverings, but I see that the Bible is clear on this. I also have met Christians in many denominations like Baptists, Mennonites, and Schwarzenau Brethren (related to Grace Brethren) who practice this. Throughout church history, there have been Christian women that have practiced this, but in the modern times many Christians re-interpreted this passage. As far as I know, most of the good commentaries on 1 Corinthians indicate similarly to PNTC.
