AT & T management caps in May

I was just officially notified that as of May, 2011, I will have a management cap on my internet service with AT & T (here in southeast Michigan). Has anyone else received this kind of information? The cap is 150 GB per month for high speed and 250 GB for Uverse.

No I haven't, but did get a changes to terms of service notice from AT&T recently. U-Verse is worthless to me since I don't use or need the mobility.

That's where I read about it--in the TOS under Restrictions on Use-Network Management. It also seems that they want to move in the direction of Uverse with internet, also, and they may just require Uverse without giving the user a choice. I hope I am wrong about that but that was also in the Terms of Service. I was almost shocked by both realities which felt like I was forced to pay more (Uverse) with a cap added. Given Uverse was in my area and I exceeded the terms of the cap.

I am on Comcast and they have a soft cap, meaning they notify you if you go over, and if you habitually go over then they may stop or change your service (not sure exactly what they will do). The cap is also 250 GB / month. I have had a traffic meter on for some time now, I never go over 1 GB a day in our family, and we use the Internet a lot. No movies, I guess lots of movies on the Internet every day could chew it up, but we seldom go over 25GB a month. You should be fine with that cap, they are really trying to catch abusers and people running web sites on a residential account.

comast has a cap, too, and I was afraid we might have gone over it: our family of six uses (abuses?? lol) Netflix, we watch TV online, I watch online sports, etc etc. We access all of the above almost every day, at varying levels. From December thru February our usage has ranges from 100-132 GB.

Some might deride us as abusers . . . [:S] but at least we are still well below the limit. So far. We don't have TV/cable, so those that do will probably find their usage much less than ours.

At least with Comcast, phone and TV usage does not count in the cap. It's Internet usage only.

Monthly Activity	150 GB	250 GB
Send/receive one page emails	10,000 emails -and-	10,000 emails -and-
Download/upload a medium resolution photo to social media site like Facebook	3,000 photos -and-	4,000 photos -and-
MP3 Songs downloaded	2,000 songs -and-	3,000 songs -and-
Stream a one-minute YouTube video (standard quality)	5,000 views -and-	5,000 views -and-
Watch hour-long TV Shows (high quality)	100 shows -and -	200 shows -and -
Stream full length movies (Standard Definition: SD; High Definition: HD)	20 SD or 10 HD movies	25 SD or 13 HD movies

Or you can let Logos 4 do automatic downloads and updates for one week. [;)]

I'm pretty sure that few of us here in Canada have those generous options. In my experience our suppliers provide less and charge more. Believe me, I would really, really love to be incorrect in this assumption. The whole issue of "caps" and limits was recently reviewed by one of our Federal Government committees. After they "gave away the store" to the providers the government stepped in and over-ruled them--but things are still up in the air. Those who are "pro caps" cite "nasty" people pirating movies. But my, if we had these generous limits in this country I'm not sure that anyone would be complaining. [or perhaps I'm missing something?]

We definitely need good access to the "cloud" to run Logos4.
