Installing Logos 4 for Windows on Mac via Parallels

For those interested in a performance comparison between Logos 4 on Windows v. Mac I tried to install it but I keep getting the following error:

Anyone got an idea how to get around this? If so I will be happy to do a demonstration video of the difference.

Thanks. That was it. Fixed and now installing.

Did the install by copying my resource files directly and scanning. But the indexing is taking even longer than usual.

When you run your comparisons, do not time L4 Mac while Parallels is running. John Fidel noted some time back that Parallels will slow down everything else on the Mac. Thus, your times in L4 Mac may be even slower than normal. I have not been using L4 Win under Parallels since the beginning of the 4.2a Beta cycle, so I no longer have a feel for speed differences.

I never did the type of testing you propose, so your results will probably be interesting. A PC doing all this Mac stuff is interesting in itself. [:D]

I'm crunching the video now and will have it up soon. I was surprised that my MacBook Pro with a brand new Seagate Momentus XT is now beginning to run Logos for Mac much better. The Seagate has a 4GB SSD chase that learns what you use most and starts to move those files over. As I have used Logos, I am sure it is getting the most used parts of it on the SSD and it is running much better.

As for a PC - I'm a computer guy. And when someone gives you a computer you use it. To be honest, I feel like there is a lot of good in the Mac OS X, but there is also some really stupid design decisions. One of which looks like it will finally be fixed in Lion. After more than a decade Mac users will finally catch up to Windows and be able to drag the edges of all screens. Until then I have to install two extra apps to get the windows management built into Windows 7.

Also, I think Apple purposely makes iTunes TOTALLY STINK on the Windows side of things. Using iOS devices with Windows really hurts. So I guess I would say I am now an iOS guy who is using whatever system makes that more efficient.

Actually the Mac OS had that feature in OS 7 (I believe it was that one) which for some inexplicable reason was dropped in the next version. Therefore, I will give Windows one advantage to go with its multiple disadvantages. [:D] Remember which forum you are on; we still believe in lynch mobs over here. [H]

So I guess I would say I am now an iOS guy who is using whatever system makes that more efficient.

Good plan. After all an OS is still just a tool.

Kidding aside, I love iMovie and iTunes isn't as horrible on a Mac as it is on Windows. I like Pages too. But other than that I see NO advantages of OSX and many advantages of Windows. Window management and there are still just more options for Windows users. What else has OS X have that Windows 7 doesn't?

From several Logos forum discussions, learned Android also has cult-like users (some intensely hate Apple). Irony: Google and Apple both contribute and use lots of open source software.

Thankful for Logos applications on PC, Mac, and iOS; looking forward to Android (wondering if history of waiting many months for initial Logos application on Mac will repeat for Android).

Bias warning: personally use Logos 4.2a SR-2 on Windows 7 Ultimate and Mac OS X daily along with an iPad. For next computer purchase, hoping to buy another Mac; dreaming of iMac and Mac Mini model refreshes later this year with 2nd Generation Intel Core i5 or i7. Running Mac OS X 10.6.6 on a 2007 model iMac is more stable than running Windows 7 Ultimate on a 2008 model laptop (with a dozen Blue Screen of Death crashes already this month). Anticipating older iMac has a longer remaining usable life than Windows 7 laptop (consistent with typical 6 years use for Apple hardware and 3 years use for Windows hardware).

Mac OS X has many advantages over Windows, which were the basis for many Mac & PC commercials by Apple (some incredibly funny since understood thematic elements for both Mac & PC). Wikipedia has a list of Windows 7 editions (7), sub-editions (3), plus 32 and 64 bit variants for a total of 33 to 36 Windows 7 operating system nuanced configurations. In contrast, Apple has 1 Mac OS X Snow Leopard edition; all functionality is available for all users.

Windows does run on a much wider range of hardware. Apple offers limited hardware choices for using Mac OS X. For security testing and other patches, fewer hardware variations is simplier for regression testing and long term support.

An Apple Mac with Intel processor offers more flexibility for simultaneously running software: Mac OS X along with Windows and Open Source Distributions in virtual machines. Also, Mac OS X has optional X11 installation that can be used for open source applications with X11 interfaces.

Logos 4 Mac wiki page includes Need Logos 4 PC feature? with 3 viable virtualization options and Boot Camp.

Over the last 19 quarters (almost 5 years), Apple Mac hardware sales have grown noticeably faster than overall PC market. Currently, Apple is the # 1 mobile device manufacturer worldwide (iPod's, iPhone's, iPad's, and Mac laptop computers).

Back to Logos "OS wars", which OS is better for Logos use ? OS choice lor Logos really depends on personal comfort level (plus information sharing needs with others).

Practically, Logos 4.2a is usable on Mac & PC with some Feature Parity missing on Mac. If using notes, Logos 4 PC is better. Logos 4 notes needs improvement on Mac and PC => "SUGGESTION: last chance input to beefing up notes"

After Logos ships Android application(s), personally hoping finances allow for Android device purchase; would like to compare and use Logos on iPad and Android device. Like Windows, Android runs on a wide range of hardware.

Having recently fixed my Windows XP setup and also dealing with a mishap on Snow Leopard, I have come away with a great appreciation of both systems. The latter took less than an hour, XP required a complete reinstallation of everything. Given that, if you are dealing with a desktop Windows PC, your options for improvement require little more than a screwdriver. It's too bad that there isn't a plain vanilla Mac box for the masses. Apple has the means to make them given their massive ability for manufacture.
