    Thanks Dave

How do I get landscape mode? I tried but it would not switch to it. Am I missing something? Thanks again.

Perhaps your iOS has rotation lock enabled. Double-click home button, swipe to the right to see the lock.

Thanks for responding. I tried that with no luck. Is yours able to do landscape?

Found the iOS rotation lock but it makes no difference to Logos...  Am I missing something?  I tried to rotate the screen with th lock on and the lock off, no Logos screen flip.

Just remembered I have not restarted since the update, giving that a try.  Didn't help (running iOS 4.3.1)

Logos does flip when in the 'Book' menu so I tried to lock landscape while it's the books menus is in landscape, but iOS lock thinks its still in portrait and pushed the orientation back.  Maybe it's an iOS issue?

I wonder if 1.7 removes the interface for the rotation setting but the code still recognizes and respects whatever it was last set to? So users that had the in-app rotation lock on now have no way to turn it off, but the app still respects the rotation lock setting.

Just speculation, but seems plausible and should be easy to fix in a quick 1.7.1 update.

It's not supposed to, but that wouldn't be the first bug I've ever written. I'm looking into it.

    Dave,

The change in the rotation lock in v1.7.0 is a step backwards IMHO.  The iOS level rotation lock only allows locking the device in portrait mode.  It does not allow locking the device rotation in landscape mode.  In previous versions of the Logos App (1.6.3), the rotation lock as implemented in the App. allowed a user to lock the orientation in either portrait or landscape - which is a much better implementation.

    I am using an iPhone4 16GB; iOS 4.3.1.

Can you please review this feature and consider re-implementing App-level orientation lock for the Logos App?

The 1.7.0 App looks really great.  I'll post some other feedback over the next 24 hours.

I should add the disclaimer that rotation is working fine for me, I was just wondering if this might cause the issue for those reporting a problem.

Please reduce the amount of top and bottom white space to maximize the reading space (especially when the header and/or footer are hidden).

A big second to this one!  There is way too much white space on the iPad.  For those of us who require a larger font, the linked panels are now almost useless because of two big top and bottom borders.  I'd prefer a setting to eliminate all that padding and take it back to the way it was before.

    |Have just downloaded the update, but not yet had much time to play with it.  | look forward to continuing to read Mueller on iPad and am delighted that Harvard bookshelf has made it there too.  An iPad is much more convenient on my meal tray than even a mini laptop.  [:D]

This feels much more responsive to me than the previous versions.  Good update.

I find it amazing I can read almost any book in my library on my way to work!

Rotation is working fine for me - but I haven't needed to lock it

Does the copy paste option also copy the citation. I currently don't have an iPad or iPhone, but if I could copy important text, with citation, then I can later add the text into my Nota Bene book note files for information storage and retrieval, with citation.

Currently, I have not seen the value of having an iPad or iPhone for reading Logos because it breaks my work flow. I need to be able to copy text + citation.

    Thanx.

No, it will copy the citation ref but not the contents. I don't see a way to copy the citation itself.

When you say that it copies the citation ref, are you referring to the superscript number that appears in the text when you are copying a portion of text happens to be a citation by the author?

I'm not referring to citations within the text, I'm referring to a citation OF the text that you are copying. For example, if you open volume 7 of the works of John Owen and copy something from page 132, I would like to see the citation showing the title, author, publisher, page number etc.. Logos does this automatically on the Windows Desktop version. Does the mobile copy paste do the same?

I see - no, it doesn't do this either (in what I've tested thus far). I wish it would and perhaps we'll see it in a future update.

Bummer, perhaps by the time they come out with that feature, iPad 3 will be released. Meanwhile, I'll stick to my laptop.

Justified text with hyphenation for downloaded books

It went from non-justified text (which I like) to justified text (which I hate with a passion).  Is there an option to turn off this terrible "improvement"?  Please! Please! Please! Please! Please!

Agreed. We should be able to turn off justification.

Am I missing something or did the "book history" bar at the bottom of the old reading view disappear? I would use this a lot to navigate to recently opened books but definitely in a way very different from the history back button. I also looked in my recent books under library but this list of books appears to be different. Maybe it will catch up with my usage in a little time but even if it does this is not nearly as convenient as the old method.

Really liking the changes save this one and hoping I am just overlooking something. If not can I vote to bring it back in its previous form?

  • Am I missing something or did the "book history" bar at the bottom of the old reading view disappear?

Bar disappeared; was replaced by History drop-down list.  Tap and hold back arrow to display History that can be edited (also includes pages navigated to within Resource, a nice improvement over ribbon bar).  Looking forward to history fix for ?? bug -problem with history on new iPad app

I have used it but it will take some time to catch up with my library use so kind of lacking in the short term. I can see how this might be better so I will give it a chance. Will have to get used to the tap and hold though as it has fought me a little so far.

Downloaded, Installed, and it crashes every single time...Haven't had it opened once...Sinking electronicsSuper Angry

Yesterday my iPad started crashing on startup. I would estimate I have attempted to open it at least 100 time, and the loading after 20 seconds or so stops, and it comes out of Logos. I did a restart, and that didn't help.

Thanks very much for all your hard work with this. The app has improved beyond recognition.

The improvements to the resource download speed are particularly pleasing. I downloaded a bunch of commentaries yesterday and it was blisteringly fast... More so than the previous update (which, itself, was a vast improvement).

    Thank you again.

I didn't find that, either, and missed it. I'll see how well this works going forward...

That said, the improvements to the app are incredible! Thank you! From Sepia (YEA!!!) to the other settings adjustments, download speed, and more, it's a great update. Thank you!

BTW, does Logos for iPad/iPhone keep downloading when the app is in the background or the iOS device is put to sleep (like when I use the Smart Cover on my iPad 2)?

In your article "New Reasons to Download the Free Logos App" I found under the chapter "Split Screen" a passage of 2. Samuel 7 in the  "The Lexham Hebrew-English Interlinear Bible" in a clear and fine exposition. In my iPad Logos 1.7 iApp I can't verify this: What have I to do to get this order?: Right to left orientation instead of left to right and a clear arrangement of Hebrew and English text. I am missing this arrangement in your other programs like "Lexham Greek English Interlinear" too. Many of these programs present a disorientated mix of Greek or Hebrew and English Words. Do I need a special accommodation and how can I get it?

Did we lose the ability to switch resources between panes with 1.7 update. If this feature is still available, how do you use it? It was tied to the resource history Icons.

To swap books in panes, tap the first pane. The active pane will appear normal and the inactive pane will be in shadow. In the recent resources view at the bottom of the screen, tap the book cover for the book that is in the inactive pane.

    Thanks,

    Jim

I really like the updated app on my iPad.  However, on my iPod Touch (and I would guess also on the iPhone) the verse chooser button and the history buttons are hard for both me and my wife to press, and neither of us have huge hands.  [:)]

Maybe the top bar that appears when you swipe down could be bigger?  Since we're not reading the text of the open book(s) while choosing a different location.  Or perhaps the center field where you type in a reference manually could be made a little smaller so the history/verse chooser buttons would have room to be larger.  Otherwise, it's a great update.

    Thanks so much!
