I havethe three volume print version of Gurnall's Christian in Complete Armoour. Here is a quote:
"Prideful by nature, man would like nothing better than to be his own god (though for clamoring so high he got his fall). Find a doctrine that nourishes a good opinion of man in his own eyes, and he will show himself a glutton at its table."
Here is a quote from the Logos resource:
"Man naturally would be a god to himself, though by clambering so high he got his fall; and whatever doctrine nourisheth a good opinion of man in his own eye, this is acceptable to him, and this hath spawned another fry of dangerous errors" Gurnall, W., & Campbell, J. (1845). The Christian in Complete Armour (53). London: Thomas Tegg.
The Logos version must be the original, public domain version but I sure like the "updated" version better.
Just sounding off.
