A gentle question on moving iOS development forward for Bob

First, I want to applaud Logos.  Bob and the team have done an incredible job of getting the Bible and important resources into the hands of pastors around the world.  I stand amazed at what God has done through Logos.  They have done this while keeping the Logos search engine for PC, Mac and iOS free.  That is an amazing accomplishment!

In the past year we have seen shocking progress in the PC and Mac search engines.  I especially want to applaud the work done by the programmers on the Mac side.  As a former programmer who worked for IBM and AT&T, I know Xcode is not an easy nut to crack.  The developers do amazing work.

The Logos for iOS team, while small, has also worked diligently to give us access to resources on the iPhone and iPad.  This is also something that needs to be applauded.  Many pastors, including myself, are now accessing resources for study on the go.  This is an incredible help.

I hope I am not out of line with this question, but I wonder, is it time for Logos to invest more deeply in the iOS development team and process?  I know there was extensive work done in the background of the application to incorporate the Logos display engine to the mobile platform, but at this point, key features such as highlighting and notes are still not functional.  My Logos for iOS occasionally crashes and does not have the stability and application strength myself and others are hoping for.  As I say this, I realize it is a free app.  Please do not think I am ungrateful for it!  I am filled with thankfulness to Logos for all that have done and continue to do.

That being said, I understanding the work involved to create a robust software application.  I also believe a more feature rich and stable iOS application would be a strong asset in Logos' pocket.  Does Logos need to invest more in developers for the iOS platform to move it forward?   I know there is much I am not aware of and much that can not be shared in this forum.  I hope the tone of this post has come across loving.  Please understand I have the utmost respect and admiration for the entire Logos team.  I am a committed Logos user and fan of the product. 

I am looking forward to the day when I can show others my logos iOS app with the kind of confidence I can for the PC and Mac platforms.

At least iOS has an app working, thus far no app for android has been released. And the flagship is still missing key features... Also still hoping for a forum app or better functionality with mobile platforms for posting and viewing the forums. (Reason for my sloppy unedited post at first)

While I believe most of us greatly appreciate what Logos has done in giving us great tools for Bible Study, they are compensated justly. They are the "Cadillac" and we pay accordingly in comparison to the cheaper versions. So in that aspect more will be expected. Going on two years with the flagship with major components still missing... Let's just say if it weren't Bible Study software and the Christian lifestyle of most customers, they would have been given up on by a majority a while ago.

So while Logos is appreciated there are also justifiably frustrated customers who have seen things like Sermon File, Pbb and Notes either not available or not as good as V3. Also at the request of Logos uservoice was used to gauge customer opinion and these 3 are and have been the big desires... Yet months and over a year plus later - little or nothing.

Months later still no Android app... So while I do agree a "more feature rich and stable iOS app would be a strong asset in Logos' pocket" Android all the more and not failing long term customers by pushing off important features that many actually paid for at the time, while they pursue other ventures could hurt the purse in the long run. Alienating the foundational customers is never a good strategy. I upgraded to V4 for a reason to upgrade and not have to keep two full versions on my system for functionality...

I too am looking forward to the android app....and i know that Logos will come through with an app that I;ll love.

Thank you Kurt for what you have said. I appreciate very much both the tone and the substance. I agree with you in all points. I know Android application is now in focus to be released but all of us who use iPhone/iPad would really appreciate and be thankful for some of the progress in those things you mentioned in your post. Am I correct in understanding the issue is Logos can not get people to apply for a job?  It is not a strategic decision to cap the size of mobile platform development teams?

Insert the words "highly qualified" in there and you might be right.  

Logos endeavors to hire the cream of the crop.  So if you know of any programmers, point them towards Bellingham.
