Non-Supported Resources

Spoke to a Customer Service person today, and though she was really nice, she made comments that really concern me.

According to her, I cannot point Logos 4 to my Logos 3 Resources.  I also will not be able to backup my Logos 4 Resources but will need to re-download the entire 9.8Gigs when I also install this on my laptop.

This is not good.

1.  Do I lose all my non-supported resources (3rd Party, Free, etc)?

2. Do I lose all of my Notes and Favorites?

3. Do I need to re-download my 9.8Gigs of resources every time I format a computer?*

It has now been over 6 hours, and I am still downloading.  With a 5MB pipe, I thought I would be done by now.

You might find it helpful to read more on the forum. There are the same things discussed already.

There is no need nor way to point Logos 4 to your Logos 3 path. Logos 4 will find that on its own. You will get newer versions of the same resources. But it is totally separate program. You will not loose any of your resources, except pbb books, till they make them available in Logos 4 again.

    1. Everything but PBBs will be rebuilt so that you can read it. This takes time. If you have a list of particular files (not PBBs) that you can't read, post them to the forums so that the Logos guys know to look into it. As for PBB support, reading PBBs will be supported in upcoming updates.

    2. Notes & Markups importing is coming very soon (http://www.logos.com/4/missingfeatures). No word on favorites

    3. Downloading the resources will be the "easiest" thing, although you could simply copy the resources folder over to an external drive and then upon reinstall, just move the resources back.

Logos 4 will not be "happy" until it has the most up to date version for all your resources.  For about half of my resources, this is the old lbxlls version, which are copied over to Logos  4.  You can force this by telling Logos4 to scan a subdirectory for them.

    1.  Logos 4 currently works with its native logos4 format, the old lbxlls format as well as some old LLS titles.  Logos will eventually get PBB again, but that will have to be reworked.

    2.  Logos 4 does not support import of this at this time.  They have promissed to get note import really soon (It is listed as before 1Q 2010)

    3.  Not really.  That is the easy way, but see the following -- http://community.logos.com/forums/t/3193.aspx  There is a way to make it work.

True. But L4 does look at your L3 folder and copy to it's own, then downloads whatever resource files are newer.

3rd party commercial publishers (e.g. Nelson) should still be supported and your licenses should be synced at the Logos servers.

Free (is this E4?) should be supported, if they they are in LBXLLS format. LLS files are not supported, but almost all have been redone to work with Libronix of Logos4. PBB's will be supported sometime next year.

Do I lose all of my Notes and Favorites?

Favorites: probably; mark-up is probably gone too. Notes: an import module (or similar) is coming, though probably not until after January 2010.

Do I need to re-download my 9.8Gigs of resources every time I format a computer?*

Probably. Unless we could work out a back-up/restore scheme that worked for Logos4. I'm not aware of a way to do this, or if it's even possible. If it is possible, someone will figure it out and tell us how to do it. (I nominate David Hooten.)

So far all but one of the books of the almost 1800 I had in Logos 3 (inluding third party and titles from the mid 90) are showing up.  Tho only one missing is Glossary of Morpho-Syntactic Database Terminology by Michael  Heiser which is odd since it is still included in the current release.  I didn't have any PBBs.   (Logos just started downloading another update and hasn't finished indexing yet )

Jacob, have you actually tried that?

We had a server error yesterday that was preventing this resource (among others) from being downloaded. If you've restarted Logos 4 since noon (PST) today, it should have automatically detected this missing resource and downloaded it. Please let us know if you're still missing it.
