What's missing? Smart Tags

I see that I will have to wait quite a while for the Sermon File Add-in, but there is no mention of Smart tags.... Is this going to be forsaken? I sure hope not, because those 2 features are what I use most... I was hoping Sermon File would be in the first round... But what about Smart Tags? I would think that would be an easy and quick fix...

There was plenty of interest in this during the beta testing. Is it that hard to program?? I am totally puzzled by Logos' lack of response to this request.

Yeah Mark, I don't get the lack of response either... It was obviously a popular and highly used feature as discussed during Beta.... Team Logos any comments???

I think it has to do with them not opening up the API at this time. But that's only my guess.

“API design is complicated. Right now, we haven't had the time to design a public API that exposes the power of Logos 4 (at the right level of technical complexity). Reusing the LDLS3 API isn't a viable option, because the fundamentals of the system have changed so much. Additionally, the problem with publishing an API is that it effectively commits us to supporting it for a very long time. (Yes, we could throw it away in v4.1 and publish a new API, but that's not a good way to get 3rd-party developers interested in developing for the software long-term.) So if we publish an API, we want to get it "right" the first time, so that it's easy to learn, it's easy to do things the right way, and it'll have room for growth as we add features to 4.0 after launch.”

Smart tags are in MS Word/PowerPoint that have a dotted (red) underline in which you can right click to get a Logos context menu (upon which you can view passages, or open up various Guides. Nice v. 3 feature.

Smart Tags is a feature where when you type a bible reference in Microsoft Word, you can pull up a menu to enter the biblical text from any of your Libronix Bibles directly into MS Word. For more information, go to http://www.logos.com/support/article/530

Yup--I'm sure not having Smart Tags is because of the API not being opened yet.

It isn't that hard to program (at least not under L3). But from what I've seen, the whole kit and kaboodle is different in L4. I have been itching to poke around under the hood, but there's not much you can do yet.

We'll have to wait. But I have a feeling that we'll be able to do some really neat things once they do open up the API.
