I'm drawing from the thread by Esther Jones "Wednesday night Bible Study".
So I realize this isn't a completely new topic, but I want to try and draw out more specific "Using L4 this way in class has really been useful." Then tell how you set it up and deliver it. While I have only recently started physically using L4 in class, I've found one particular set up that really helps drive the point home I'm trying to make. It's pretty simple, but very attention grabbing.
(BTW, I teach an older,40-70 year old, adult SS class, with some very young mixed in. Also, I only have 2 GB memory, and a 36 inch flat screen to teach off of. If you're fortunate enough to have a bigger screen, this will work so much better)
I've felt especially impressed lately by the Lord to really challenge, especially the very young, to not be tricked by half-quoted, mis-quoted and completely abused & taken out of context scriptures.
In class we have started a weekly "Context Sandwich". We start with a particular verse that I feel has great truth and power, but has been thoroughly abused to allow for the flesh. But after we read that verse, we look at 10-15 verses either side of it.
A great part about this is I've already got 99% of what I need L4 to do done when I start class. Just a few mouse clicks during class to show the hidden highlighting. No heavy resource or memory demands (No Spinning Pizzas). Yet a real good visual effect pointing out the truth you want them to see.
Anyway, here is all I do.If you're newer to L4, the directions to highlighting and creating your own HL palette are in the Wiki.
- Use a layout with just a single Bible open.
- Depending on the size of your room, adjust the font slider. Deselecting the locator bar and reading view will give you more area to work with.

- Create a reasonably LOUD highlighting effect, & highlight your featured verse. See below:

- The above would be your opening screen to the class, with the steps below temporarily hidden.
- Create a second, different, slightly less LOUD highlighting effect.
- Now using that 2nd created highlight, in the 5-10 preceding & following verses around vs 7, highlight the key words and repeated phrases.
- As in the picture below:

- Now, before class, just go up to the visual filters button and deselect the 2nd created highlight, leaving the first one checked.

- Now you're ready to start teaching from the single hihlighted verse 7
While not wanting to take away from the power of vs 7, I want to drive home the point it is conditional. That's when I go back up to visual filters, and click on your 2nd (hidden) highlight. Clicking on it now reveals the highlights of the context of vs 7. The Highlighting of the repeated words really makes a great visual effect to the whole of the text. See again below:

For many things visual, PowerPoint still works best for me to teach from. But I really want to get L4 more involved, and have the class get confident in using it for reference and during class, asking for maybe a word study on say "Abide".
Hope many others have some L4 teaching tips to share.
