Wow! Not using or owning iOS products I had never heard about the ebook fiasco. The little I just read it appears Apple is going more Totalitarion than ever. Hopefully it doesn't effect Logos.

And return search results?! [:O]
If that is already possible I am really going to have to ramp up my time in my new Camp Logos Live DVDs. I've waited until Nina finished her Spring semester (this week) and planned on working through the DVD together. There is SO much Logos already does that I keep learning new possibilities from the Wiki & the forums. One time at Camp Logos was wonderful but there is so much more to discover.

4. Strives to be innovative and insanely great (copied by many others).
By the way, Apple has discontinued selling dedicated server hardware.
Apologies, disagree with scope of # 3 because many more companies have business profit motives (free enterprise) that provide funny material for various comic strips (e.g. Dilbert).
Back to Logos Development topic:
Thankful for Logos Bible Study with great choice of resources for personal Library. Looking forward to Bible Study improvements including Personal Book Builder (PBB) and Sermon File follow-on plus many more resources (my Community Pricing bids and Pre-publication orders exceed what have already invested in Logos).
Thankful for Logos company communication with customers; appreciate development update and insights.

Hopefully you posted this in jest, unless you fully intend to start a flame war.
Very strange since Inc listed Apple as #5 in its list of the most admired companies in America (that is admired by other corporations). MS did no even make the list.

One episode of The Simpsons has Bill Gates (& goon squad) buying out Homer's internet start-up company.
"Oh,
so they have internet on computers now" - HomerIt would not be so funny if there was not at least a public perception of greed & corruption. But how many of us would do our own jobs for free? I am glad to hear Bob say we will have a choice between iOS and Android. I hope it comes soon.

Hey Bob, any word yet on what Logos will be doing for the iOS apps now that Apple have changed their Ebooks pricing policy?
We'll be recommending Android devices. :-)
Obviously we'll have to comply with Apple's guidelines...and we're still waiting to see how all this shakes out. (Will the Kindle app remain on the iPhone?)
If you have no links within the app to buy ebooks (i.e. you're not selling ebooks within the app) are you in compliance? Or are you forced to offer the ability to buy ebooks within the app at a 30% cut to apple?

We will have to wait and see how this affect Logos as it's primary function is not an ebook Reader. Would it be so bad if I could purchase another Bible translation in the App? There are many people that have downloaded the free app but do not have a logos 4 base package. My wife is a perfect example. She doesn't want to spend the money for a base package as she wouldn't use most of the books. She uses the Amplified as her primary Bible and would probably use a Strong's and maybe a 1 or 2 commentaries. So if she could purchase the Amplified through the Logos app I'm sure she would. She doesn't use Logos on her computer. I'm sure there are a lot of people out there don't want or wouldn't use many of the features of Logos but would like to have another Bible translation or a book or 2 that logos does have, like E.M Bounds works on prayer. They might purchase them if they could through their iPhone/iPad. I know Apple takes a 30% cut and I'm not sure how much of Logos would be consumed by that but it you look at the potential number of new clients for Logos resources it could turn out positive by adding a large number of new customers.
Logos doesn't make it money off of the software they make their money off of resources and if they had some of the more popular Christian books being published it could grow their base. I know there are several books in the iBook store I would like to get (when I catch up on all my reading) that aren't available in Logos. Logos could make a push to become the Christian eBook Leader. I know there are other Bible Study software applications that also have the apps and some of the books but where is the place to go to get Christian eBooks? Amazon? Barnes & Noble? There really is no defacto christian eBook retailer at this time.
Just my 2 cents

I'm a big fan of the products Apple puts out, but in this case I hope they get their behinds handed to them in the courts or in the market place after pulling a stunt like this.
I wonder if Logos would ever be willing to release an iOS app for
jail-broken devices? I'd gladly pay for that app in an effort to give
Apple a piece of my mind!Either way, I'll just have to step up the conversion of my Logos library to PDFs so access to my library isn't blocked at a whim by a ridiculous company.

FYI...This is a violation of the Logos's EULA. We cannot copy the program or resources with the exception of making backup the program/software. Converting resources to a different format is not considered to be making a backup copy. A backup copy is a copy of the resource in its original format.

I don't think Apple will require Logos to offer any books but I do think they would require all books offered to be the same price within the store as they are on Logos.com and keep 30% of each sale. In other words Apple will throw their weight around like eBay does. And AT&T, Microsoft, Rupert Murdock, and the parade goes on...............Jacob Hantla said:Or are you forced to offer the ability to buy ebooks within the app at a 30% cut to apple?
In other words, Paul Golder's post was incorrect only in that it was restricted to America's corporate climate. [N] They are all that way.[:(]

Stephen,
I really like your thinking here.
As to your point about Christian eBook leader, you're right that there aren't any. If there's a Christian eBook I can't get from Logos or Olivetree, I'll look for them in the following order: Amazon (the Kindle reader app is the best of its kind IMHO), CBD (their free eBook reader is very basic in functionality, but it works), Google (due to the volume of their library, hoping that they may have a book that others don't carry).

I'm hoping Apple does the right thing by its customers here. If the rumors end up being true and come July 1 all ebooks have to go through in-app purchases and 30% to Apple, with no way around that (i.e., ipad safari blocks access to amazon.com and/or the kindle app blocks downloading from non-in-app purchases), and assuming that leads to Amazon and B&N pulling their apps from the store, then the ipad becomes virtually worthless for a large number of Apple's customers. Many (like me) switched to the ipad from the kindle because the ipad serves as a kindle plus a lot more. If you take away the kindle option then it becomes a game-changer. I would sell my ipad on ebay and get an Android tablet right away if that happens. And "antenna-gate" would become silly in comparison to the outcry this would create.
My guess is that ebook apps will be required to sell ebooks at a higher price with 30% going to Apple through in-app purchases, but website purchases for those ereader apps (including through ipad safari) would still be through normal purchasing channels and could still be downloaded to the apps. This will be for a short time until Apple realizes the ridiculousness of the whole thing and makes a change. That or they will back off of this rule altogether.
Hopefully this rant makes sense and I didn't just ramble on too much!

Logos 4 allows us to export resources to PDF up to 100 pages at a time. There isn't a limit that I'm aware of to how many times you can do that to a resource.
That's one way to do it at least. You can search the forums and there are multiple threads explaining how to export entire books to Word or PDF, or how to load them onto one's Kindle.
This is a form of backup anyway. If Logos ever goes bankrupt or pulls a Pradis on us, I'm not losing the $$$ I've invested in these books. One has to rethink the concept of ownership a little differently when all you have to represent your purchase are a few electrons and pixels on a screen.

Concur - also use Kindle and Nook on iPad to read some e-books currently not available in Logos (and not available in Apple's iBooks). Hoping Apple allows modified e-book reader applications to remain in app store (remove links to launch web browser for external store purchase).

Apple's guideline 11.13 require in-app purchase prices to be the same price or less than offered elsewhere => http://www.futurebook.net/content/official-apple-locks-down-kindle-app
One speculation: Logos could modify resource licensing. If purchased in-app on an iOS device, license restricted to iOS device along with 70 % discount at Logos.com for same resource. If purchase resource for same price at Logos.com, could use resource on iOS devices and other Logos platforms => If in app purchasing added to iOS app, wonder about Logos resource licensing change ?
Another revenue possibility for iOS in-app purchasing is renting resource(s) to read for a limited time.

Well the macintosh computer is not micromanaged like the iOS is, you have no worry's about getting one if you want. I do not own a iPad, I do have an iPhone, the whole percentage thing Apple has raised is troubling. UNderstandable in some ways, and reasonable to Kindles upto 70% it demands, plus downloading fees charged to the publisher meaning that sometimes a kindle book of $9.99 will sometimes net the publisher around $0.65. That being said I still prefer Kindle books being able to read them on my iPhone or computer. I will not invest in any serious way into Apple books because, while it;s an ok reader until i can read them on my computer it's pointless. Amazon may well pull out of iOS (I doubt it), but I can;t see them complying to Apples set up either, It is to forgive the vulgarity a big old P!$$!^& match between google amazon and apple. Anti trust issues may arise, although with android tablets and ebook readers in general it may be considered a non issue. Also on the Amazon front they may well pull out and leave and Modify Stanza to read Kindle books, it already has the base code for reading them just need to add in an account interface (like it's ereader/fictionwise one) and you have the most popular reader for the iOS reading kindle and Nook (ereader format is what barns and noble uses) books and while owned now by Amazon it is a free reader not selling any books and therefor not violating any of Apples terms.
My guess is that Logos to comply with Apple guidelines only has to remove any links to new products from it's app and possibly not even that. Apple is in a big old fight on many forms with there companies. Google and Amazon have started a clouded music system, Apple is working on it, but Apple is the only ones trying to do it with the music industries blessings, Google and Amazon seem to be wanting to force the issue into the courts. Apple's #0% policy has forced Amazon to offer the lower 30% model to all of it's larger publishing partners but the small guys are still being forced to give up to 70%. Apple may well be willing to shoot themselves in the foot to win this war, but it will leave the iOS devices not media players but simply Apple distributed media players, which will lead to people choosing other more open items or a lot of people like me looking into Jail breaking my device.

You are probably right this isn't the best place, but it is a sad fact that companies don't make their own products and then at least for a time close their eyes to what is happening in their names. This is one of the reason's why Apple is moving iPad production to Brazil, but until corporations are forced to build thier own products, they will pass it off to the lowest bid and worry about fall out later.
