Real Looking Page Turns
Hello everybody! I am not usually a complainter, and actually I mostly have good things to say about the Vyrso iPhone app. But there is yet one thing that I would wish that the app had. Some book readers have pages which turn with virtual paper. For example the Kobo book app. It would be wonderful to see this in Vyrso. As is, it just looks like the Bible+ app. I don't see much of a difference. Since Vyrso is not a Bible study app, they should have more memory available for making it nicer like this.

According to one of the developers, the two apps share much code with one another. I expect that the two apps will differentiate themselves more in the future. I agree, however, that a page turn effect would enhance the app. Good suggestion!

emm - why? Actually I'm finding it highly annoying when I need to look at some websites that do this to me. Now I don't have an e-reader, but I think the point is the same on the notebook screen: It uses system resources and stops my reading flow. Especially in the case of fictional books, where I tend to immerse myself into the protaginist's world - you are in a dimly lit cave, anxiously watching out for a dragon or orc that may spring at you - and then you get to "admire" the pixel-art and morphing capabilities of a 21st century piece of electronic before they expect you to read on...
Since I expect the day will come for me to utilize this: if any developer has too much time on hands to implement such a feature, have a sensible supervisor make him also code a configuration option "visible page turn = permanently off"!
Just my thoughts on this...

It is hard to make judgements on these things without experiencing them. I am not a "typography expert," but I have taken three graduate level courses, which included discussions on theory. A properly designed layout includes elements to assist the reader. Similarly, a graphic page turn assists the reader to know that he/she is on a new page. With some readers, it is too easy to skip several pages quickly and not realize it. There are no "visual cues" - a page turn effect provides this.
It is funny that you think this is going to be onerous to the reader. I was just thinking the other day when I was reading a paperback - "this is such a burden to flip the page!" [:D]
There are readers which do better jobs at "page turns" than others. Check out iBooks on the iPad. I think it does it very well.

iBooks has the page turn effect; Kindle for iOS does not. Personally, I prefer the Kindle app's approach. I don't particularly like the page turn effect.

Before I got my iPhone and the Kobo app, I never imagined I would like such a feature. I think it should be an option at least, to have virtual page turns.
There are different kinds of people who use Vyso. There are the engineering types, who emphasize functionality over aesthetics. I work with many of those at the IT company where I work. Some of them would just as soon use the barest GUI for executing their daily tasks. Some would not even use a GUI if they could, but use command prompt all the time. Then there are the people who have an emotional attachment to books, that use ebooks because they can cart their whole libraries around with them in the palm of their hand. I am certainly more sensitive to this kind of thing. I want the app to look good and feel good. I joke not when I say that some of the engineers laugh at me a little and look askance at my so-called childish attachments to asthetical considerations. Logos should do a survey on this.

Totally agree that this should be developed as an option. Sounds like there is a bit of
passion in the opposing opinions. Would prefer to have this page turn
effect myself, but I totally get those who could do without it. It
brings a bit of elegance to the reader, IMO.. Looking forward to seeing
this develop into more of a reader and less of a neutered Logos App..0 -
They could always make it an option like in the Kindle app. I personally would love this.
