Looking for a Pauline Resource

Hi Y'all! I am looking for a recent, solid introduction to Paul which is not NPP. I'd prefer a resource which is historical and as objective as possible, and a traditional reformed view of justification. Something like middle of the road evangelical, middle of the road scholarly (good notes, but not overbearing).

Anybody know of anything like that? I haven't got time to pull needles out of haystacks (Logos is becoming quite a haystack, in my opinion), and frankly, my mental powers are not at the level of Bible superstar (yet). Smile

Hi Kendall! I am not a Pauline expert, and I don't have any more time than you do, probably [;)] but I did put "Pauline" in the search box on Logos' site. I don't know who is necessarily Reformed, unless they spell it out in bold letters. For instance, this book is praised by someone from Westminster, but I don't know anything about the author. . .

This book, by Schreiner, may not be a total Intro to Paul in some ways, however, I think Schreiner is "Reformed" on some level (?), and not NPP.

I'd have to do more work, but not so much because of the Logos haystack, I just don't know the background of the authors without reading more. maybe someone else will know of one off the top of their head.

I would second the suggestion of Schreiner - although the better book in Logos would be his New Testament Theology - http://www.logos.com/product/7791/new-testament-theology-magnifying-god-in-christ . His commentary on Romans would cover justification - and he does interact there with the NPP - http://www.logos.com/product/8076/baker-exegetical-commentary-on-the-new-testament-romans . The best book by Schreiner on Paul's thology is not available in Logos - Paul - Apostle of God's Glory in Christ: A Pauline Theology.

Another good intro to Paul's theology is F.F. Bruce - http://www.logos.com/product/3112/paul-apostle-of-the-free-spirit .

Schreiner is one of my professors here at SBTS. I would recommend any resource from him.

do you know if he is Reformed? I thought he might be . . . he is listed as Baptist, though, which can go either way.

I don't know if this would be too technical for you but Gaffin's book is definitely reformed and not NPP.

He apparently is teaching at the same seminary as Thomas Schreiner. Although I've only read part of his book and never heard him speak he seems like he's probably Reformed.

I attend Southern Baptist Theological Seminary where Thomas Schreiner teaches at. Polhill is not a faculty member here.

You may be right. The information I quoted from the website is also on the inside jacket cover of the print book. Then I looked at the publishing date and it was 1999. He may no longer be an active professor there. His birthdate according to the front matter of the book was in 1939 so he may very well not be teaching full-time.
