I was just reading the blog about the above morphological search, I did not know that we could find the root of a greek word, so I tried to do the above search and returned 0 results, what might be wrong?

Although as far as I can see we cannot do a search which specifically looks for a root word in the GNT, am I correct in that assumption? maybe their is a way to do it.

We can't search by Greek root/stem in Logos. One way is to use a wildcard (*) at the end of the stem (and beginning of word if you want to catch forms with prefixes) but since it's sensitive to marks (accents) sometimes that approach will miss things.
A work-around involves using the Lexham Analytic Lexicon, you probably have it in your library. If not here's the product page. It lists cognate words for every word. So, if you copy that list, attach lemma: before each cognate you'll get a search equivalent to a root search.
Finally, please add your votes to http://logos.uservoice.com/forums/42823-logos-bible-software-4/suggestions/682641-stem-cognate-search?ref=title to let Logos know that you want them to add support for this kind of search without the workarounds.
