Logos for iPhone not syncing daily reading plan

Hi Alasdair
I am afraid that this is a common problem at the moment and there is no current workaround.
Logos are working on updating the software to address this but - until then - this will remain a problem.
At the moment we don't know when the updated software will be available - the necessary desktop software is being tested but there will also need to be updates to the mobile apps as well

I would like to voice my concerns/frustrations/disappointments as well that this is not appearing to be fixed any time soon. The discussion has been that this will be in V4.5, but after 4 months since the initial concern has been raised, there still only seems to be a future update that will fix this. If it is going to be in V4.5, then there are still 2 minor releaseses left since my system appears to be only at V 4.3 SR-8. So, we have still a few months til this is resolved?
Disappointedly,
Michael

You are correct that the current stable release is 4.3 SR8.
However, Logos decided that there wouldn't be a 4.4!
So the next release, which does include the desktop aspects of the new synchronisation framework is 4.5 which is currently in beta testing (we are currently on beta 12). We don't know when this will be released.
There will also need to be updates to the mobile apps and we have no insight into their availability.
So, no real answers on the timeline, but hopefully this clarifies a little

New problem. Every time I open up my logos app on my iPad there are five one year reading plans I didn't create. I can delete 4 of them, but not the fifth.
When I open the app the next time they are all back. Is this part of the "fix".
**Begin rant** I for one am more than frustrated with this. I have emailed support a couple of times regarding different issues and gotten no reply. I am starting to feel that Logos is chasing dollars instead of helping build the body of Christ. I admit I might be wrong but I know the software was a lot more stable some years ago and if something went wrong they were all over it. Not so anymore. **End rant**
Back to topic. Is there anyway to stop the system from creating a bunch of unwanted reading plans?
Thanks

Just want to chime in that it is very disappointing to not be able to execute my reading plan for 2012... My reading plans are fairly elaborate and 2011 worked flawlessly... wasn’t expecting this - I am sure Logos wasn’t either... Love you guys and appreciate your hard work.
Do I understand that the beta version being tested fixes the issue? If so, what are the risks...? 'Cause I really want my reading plan to work on my iPhone... really bad...

Hi Bert - and welcome to the forums
Logos 4.5 is currently in beta testing and is intended to provide what is necessary on the desktop end to fix this problem, there will also need to be updates to the mobile apps. At the moment, running the beta version does not resolve the problem..

Indeed - far from it - running the Beta excludes any possibility as the warning given at Beta 1 made clear.

If I could also weigh in on this: You cannot simply withdraw a feature because it is "free". It is a unique selling point to those considering whether or not to buy. It is in-fact the reason why I moved from another product and was willing to re-purchase some of my books. Syncing is part of the product I paid for. Allowing those without a Logos package to download the app does not remove the responsibility to maintain it. In fact, it means that we who have packages are paying for its development. It is actually costing us more because it is free and so we are subsidising the cost of the app for those who do not have a full package.
Many software products are sold on the basis that you will get free cloud storage; imagine if there owners woke up one morning to find that the cloud storage was gone! Imagine if Gmail decided to turn off email and said we're working on it, see you in six months.
What if something breaks on 4.5? Will they just not bother to fix it and tell us that it may/may not be fixed in a future update and at some undisclosed time? In fact, I no longer use the reading plan and have had to purchase another product just for that purpose.
This is entirely unacceptable.

Welcome to the forums Jeff. While I share your concerns re: QA, don't assume that they don't have a well-defined plan - we have no right to see the plan. However, we do have the right to complain about the quality of analysis and design we see by its consequences.[8-)]

For the avoidance of doubt.
On 4.3 the Sync system works really badly, really slowly and with a consequent number of malfunctions.
Those who have entered the beta program knew in advance that the Sync System would no longer work if they chose to follow that route - the sync system hasn't been withdrawn 4.5 beta has moved onto the new sync architecture. The problem is that he iPad app has not been upgraded to that system yet.
The fact that an advertised feature isn't working well with the standard release 4.3) is unacceptable.
The fact that it is not working with the beta is entirely to be expected given the trouble Logos took to warn us in advance.

No new complaints than have aleady been expressed. I am just piling on to let you know the numbers that are waiting for unfilfilled promises!

I Too wish to add my frustrations to the pile. Logos should stop all other development until these sync issues are fixed.
The only reason I bought an iPad was for Logos. Logos - your app is great. But is seems you have let this go the back burner.

Ken - The sync issues are being worked on. Currently 4.5 is in beta, bringing a new sync infrastructure which will allow notes & highlighting on the mobile app. An update via a service release will follow shortly after the next major version of the iOS app is released to fix the reading plans. Logos can't "stop all other development" - part of the problem with the current sync infrastructure is the number of users on the system. If they stop working on the new infrastructure, they would, in effect, be stopping work on the sync of reading plans. By the way, I have been told that work on reading plans is being done concurrently.

Welcome [:D]
On 5 Jan 2012, Bob Pritchett (CEO) lengthy reply about reading plan sync => http://community.logos.com/forums/p/5923/321264.aspx#321264 includes:
Bob Pritchett said:We're right now (and I mean right now -- it's late on Thursday night and much of our team is here working away at the office) hunting down and eliminating performance bugs in the Sync v2 framework. It's a big, big change and it involves user data, so we want to be very careful to get everything right.
Sometime very soon we'll ship a desktop v4.5 Release Candidate. Within a week of that release we'll make it final, and it'll roll out to everyone. Within a day or so of that we should be able to release the new iOS app with notes and highlighting syncing
In parallel, developers are working to get Reading Plans to Sync v2 as well. This may still be a few weeks out; I very much wish it wasn't, and we're all acutely aware that many people start reading plans on January 1, and we're disappointed that we were unable to deliver this before then.
By the way, I'm aware Bob Pritchett (CEO) is anxiously looking forward to sync reliably working on his mobile devices.
Keep Smiling [:)]

Which bigs got fixed? (not being sarcastic or critical, just honestly wondering)
I never tried highlighting until after the update, and it is working fine. But my reading plans are still goofy. Sometimes the wrong bible reading plan will sync from iPad to pc, but the custom reading plan I created on my pc version has never synced up properly to show up on my iPad app. (I'm using 2.0.2 on iPad, and I think the most recent release on pc)
Is there a way to "wipe the slate" so to speak and delete all readin plans on my iPad so maybe the right one will come over?

The reading plans need another update to both the desktop and mobile apps. The desktop version is in beta now (4.5a b4). The mobile app should probably enter a short beta cycle in the near future. You will need to wait for these updates to go live before the reading plans will sync properly.

I'm not using the beta of the desktop app or the iOS app, but my plans are (finally) syncing correctly to my iPhone.

This is consistent with what other users have experienced over the past many months... the app will randomly start syncing the reading plan. I AM on both betas and my plan has not synced since early November. If the fix is not released in 2 weeks, you may experience problems again. (keep checking your reading plan list to see how many days into the future you have readings for.)

I know there have been tons of posts about the syncing issue and it's random right now until the fix comes. Just an observation here...my iPad and iPhone sync my reading plan with no problem. No luck with it syncing on my desktop Mac. Interesting.

Thanks alabama24 for the information. My bible reading plan still not sync correctly at the moment. I will wait for the new release of the iPhone app, My desktop version is already on 4.5a

I am having the same problem also and I have upgraded to Logos 5. Both iPhone and iPad don't sync with the PC and Mac version. FaithLife app sync with iPad version but not the iPhone version.

Hi Khoo Kay
There are a number of others who are being affected by this issue. You could add your problems to this thread, and hopefully we will hear from Logos soon.

The issue has been identified and fixed in internal builds. Unfortunately there is no workaround at the moment but the next release will resolve the problem. Thanks for your patience.!
